Salute Spines’ phenomenal victory

By Gonzalo Duque

WE wonder why our good friend, former President Erap has not yet conceded, err…, rather “conceived” his defeat. On this account, we doff our hat to former Speaker Joe de Venecia who in 1998 readily congratulated his then very popular opponent when it was clear that he, Erap, won.

Knowing Erap, we think he is just, as usual, “acting.” Nine-time FAMAS awardee yata yan! He wants to stay in the limelight.

Kawawang koboy si Manny Villar ano? He squandered more than a billion pesos only to end up No. 3 in the race to the Palasyo.

Bakit kaya natalo nang ganyan?

Four reasons were advanced: 1. His business scams 2. His below-the-belt attacks like Noynoy’s mental fitness 3. Use of children and his ailing mother in the campaign, and yes 4. Dubious political goals.

But we admire his humility for conceiving (ay, that’s Erap’s line!), conceding early.

In Pangasinan, our friend re-electionist Gov. Spines is headed for a smashing victory with overwhelming margin (is it half a million, Orly Guirao?) His emergence as a stellar politician in this premier province is simply phenomenal. He should start inching his way to the league of governors’ presidency.

In this connection, we wish to congratulate Jun Ebdane for trouncing his veteran and master politician opponent Amor Deloso in landslide fashion in the Zambales governorship. Jun, according to his confidant, is eyeing the league’s presidency.

Mag-usap na lang sila kaya? Medyo madugo ito. We believe Chavit Singson, newly elected Ilocos governor, should not be excluded from the equation.

Mabuhay kayo!

In Dagupan, our cumpadre Benjie Lim bested the suave and very popular Al Fernandez. Our analysis is that Al’s reelection was in the bag until that fracas somewhere in Bolosan – or was Salisay? – took place.

Sayang! As for Benjie, we wish him the best of luck. Gawam pala sirin tay City Hall pare ha? And those ugly fish pens most of which are illegal, please do something about them!

As to the manang, Cumadre Celia. She posted a glorious defeat. Speaker Joe  at ang Sampaguita Pictures ang kalaban! Milyones din ang nagasta ng mga De Venecias to win.

Manlalakapan kila mga agagui. Alig yo pa ra di Mayweather tan si Mosley after almost killing each other, they’d embrace afterwards.

Post-election scenes: Natatalo sina mayoral re-electionist Rey Velasco at Sammy Rosario. High performers iraya. Bakit kaya? The Resuello brothers, Ayuy and Bogs, devastated super-politicians, former Rep. Gener Tulagan and former Board Member Romeo Dadacay. Our new vice governor is Ferdie Calimlim. He beat popular Oca Lambino.

Balikan natin saglit si Noynoy.

Those who doubt his capability to turn the nation around are in for a big surprise. Hindi magpapayaman yan. And he will really lick corruption in government. That alone will bring the nation forward. Let’s help him.

Mayor Benjie, please don’t forget to direct City Agriculturist Emma Molina to clean up the city’s rivers from the proliferating illegal fishpens. That issue must have hurt Mayor Fernandez’ administation. Don’t just ignore the problem. Diyan nakasalalay ang kayamanan ng Dagupan. Bangus country, kuan mo pa?
