Noynoy is our next president

By Gonzalo Duque

SORRY to disappoint you, dear readers, last week. A lot of you texted us about what the hell did we do for missing to send our column?

We’re really sorry, but a dear member of the family, our beloved Kuya Ado — Dr. Salvador Tiongson-Duque — died, and we were in state of mourning. Who wouldn’t be? Mahal din natin yan, big brod, kuan mo pa?

We were — we still are — thankful to the many of our family friends, Kuya Ado’s particularly, including those who were not exactly friendly with us for one reason or another, who came to condole with us.

You know, sometimes, when death strikes, some nice things come with it. Reunions of loved ones is one. Our brothers and sisters from all points of the world came, and, where there was sadness, there, too, was joy, In all these, of course, we could see and feel the Hand of God, who keeps His flock under His protective wings all the time.

Having sent off Kuya Ado appropriately in prayers and in love to the Great Beyond, we are now “back in the arms” of our readers.

Now let us begin. Again.

Tomorrow, we shall all go the polls to elect our national and local officials, yes, whether we like it or not. Why do we sound like we are being forced to do it? Because, you said it, this Comelec is acting like a dictator worse than Hitler. It’s forcing us to just do it — elect our officials — despite our doubts it might not assure us of a peaceful, honest and orderly election.

Well, we don’t want to take our chances. Against the advice of some militant friends, we are going to our prescribed precinct to do our duty in a democracy. We are voting for Noynoy, of course, why is there anyone better than him? And Mar Roxas, too. Kayo namang nagpropromote kay Jojo Binay …mankasakey ti pala, mga agagui

If you’d allow us, this is what we are going to declare… again… although we had said it before. As we sit to write this, we saw on our TV screen this latest poll survey — Aquino, 42 percent; Estrada, 20; Villar, l9; Teodoro 9; Binay, 37; Roxas, 37; Legarda, l2.

There you have it, guys and gals. We are re-stating it because we don’t want history to slip past us, to forget us. Know what? It was Cong Dadong Macapagal who once told us, “iho, paglaki mo, alagaan mo itong partido namin ng tatay mo at pati na rin nina Ninoy at Gerry Roxas, ang Liberal Party.” Those words rang in our ears and yes, in our head. We won’t forget those words, prophetic.

It is our simple faith that with Noynoy as our next leader, the parameters of life and public behavior would be defined properly. Hopefully, graft and corruption would be greatly minimized. Hmmm… yes, we want to restate that. Noynoy has seen it all. His parents were the epitome of proper and correct public conduct. They died fighting for what is right.  Ditto with Mar Roxas. His father, the late Gerry Roxas, was LP’s unquestioned leader.  Nakakanerbyos lang itong pagangat ni Binay.

But we’re crossing our fingers. God, after all these years of suffering under a corrupt system, won’t allow us to suffer further. He will find a way.

For our part, let’s do our share in ensuring the long life — now freshened by a new political breeze in our vibrant democracy — by voting wisely tomorrow.

Whether you vote for Noynoy or not, please vote. The nation awaits you.
