Noynoy’s ascent to the presidency
By Gonzalo Duque
IF you ask us, the presidential election is a photo finis. Tapos na.
It’s only the shouting and the controversies kicked up by the automation poll that would delay the proclamation of Noynoy Aquino as our next president.
Why the effrontery? Not really, Noynoy’s election is written in the stars. Know what? A publisher of the biggest Fil-Am newspaper in the US told us the US-based Pinoys are overwhelmingly for Noynoy. “10 out of 10 stewardesses I talked to said they were for Noynoy,” Randy Oriel said.
Yesterday. Friday, as we were about to sit to write this column we saw atop the ear of the Philippine Star a survey made by MBC-DZRH that showed Noynoy getting 38.6 percent against Manny Villar’s 22.8 percent. Erap is somewhere at 21 percent.
No wonder, Time magazine, the most prestigious of world magazines, put Noynoy on the cover of its April issue, a few days before the elections.
Our FVR who is trying to be coy about his choice of president gave himself away when he said he would go for one who is not likely going to be corrupt. E, siopa ni ey?
We wonder why our opponent in two congressional races has a difficulty winning Noynoy’s nod to join — or rejoin the LP? Probably because of Joe de Venecia’s coalition politics.
But the LPs welcome Gina as their candidate for congressman against the manang, BSL’s Celia, who is our candidate, probably because she is openly endorsed by Villar.
We were informed by Jess Garcia that the series of “Ok Na, Noynoy Na” cycling races he has been directing was being copied by Villar’s camp. They will have theirs this week from Alabang to Legaspi for 7 straight days. Naopotan laray gimmick, alig alig lara, alig alig kapinsay dalig. But our cyclists are not joining the Southern Luzon race being loyal to Noynoy.
And by the way, what’s this suit being contemplated by Dick Gordon against SWS and Pulse Asia? Maybe because his name was sometimes ignored in the surveys. Hmmm, agay met la? Papaano naman po, ang layo masiado.
Sicayo met pay man survey, there is science to this job. Accurate. Take a look at their track record, they both accurately predicted past presidential elections. It’s sad that Dick who is very good is not rating. There are ingredients to winning elections. Pang senador lang ata.
We said once that the presidency is a matter of destiny, written in the stars. Noynoy has the ingredients. He knew how to choose his parents. Those of you who do not respect your parents, learn a lot from Noynoy. Ni, pa easy easy campaign to, but people simply love him.
But we concur with local and national pundits. Noynoy’s ascent to the Presidency will have to hurdle a pockmarked road strewn with deadly bombs. The country will suffer for a while. But the peace-loving majority will prevail.
