Spines: Founder of our Foundation Day
By Gonzalo Duque
ON April 5, 20l0, our province will celebrate its first ever foundation anniversary. It is very opportune after the Holy Week.
With humility, we wish to say that we played a small part in realizing this significant event. Of course, our hard working Governor Amado “Spines” Espino Jr., who deserves to get reelected with flying colors for his unprecedented performance, gets the highest credit for initiating it. He rightly deserves the title, “Founder of the province’s Foundation Day.”
April 5, a Monday, will be a public official holiday by virtue of an executive proclamation signed by Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza.
And so, our provincial employees who stand to benefit from this act will receive an anniversary bonus of P3,000 beginning this year and every five years hence.
We said had we done this in l996 when anniversary bonuses were legislated, our provincial employees would have been richer. It’s time to celebrate!
We heard from Butch Velasco, provincial info officer, that the much awaited opening of the fully renovated Sison Auditorium, will be on Monday, too. It will be, he said, the cultural center of the north. Well, knowing the amount of energy and imagination our governor put into the project and well, every little infra project in Pangasinan lately, we expect a stately and regal Sison building.
You know what to expect. By gum, even Butch’s information office, mahihiya ang Malacacang press office office sa ganda.
Let’s all go to the Capitol on Monday. FVR is guest of honor. He will be honored with a Balitok Award, and ten outstanding Pangasinenses will be honored, too, including Menardo Jimenez, Rey Villar, our brod Francisco Duque III, Francisco Sionil Jose, Rina Jimenez David, Col. Eric Noble, Santiago B. Villafania, Westly R. Rosario, and Rodolfo Tan Cardozo. A plaque of recognition for Jaime P. Lucas, founding president of the Ulopan na Pansiansiay Salitan Pangasinan, and others.
Awarding Committee chair is Arabelle Arcinue, president of the Pangasinan Heritage Foundation.
See you all there!
