Noynoy-Mar team tops surveys

By Gonzalo Duque

WE have been receiving an avalanche of reports that our fellow partymates, Liberals Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas, LP’s presidential and vice presidential candidates, are topping popularity surveys all over the land.

Yes, even in Pangasinan.

That’s not unexpected. The surveys, if you ask us, mean the country and the province of Pangasinan are coming back to their glory days. You see, before the baby boomers hit town, the whole place was a Liberal bastion.

Our late erpat former Gov. Paco was then LP chairman. Our home in Dagupan and Quezon City were frequent rendezvous of LP leaders.

Under the presidency of Diosdado Macapagal, father of GMA, erpat was a star in the President’s cabinet (health).

One evening while the LP was holding its miting de avance in Plaza Miranda, our guest, the legendary Ninoy, was briefing erpat about the LP’s strategy for electoral victory. The plan was aborted by the Miranda bombing. Luckily, Ninoy was at our house in Loyola Heights.

He turned out to be the most powerful critic of Ferdinand Marcos.

Erpat asked us, though we were still in our teens, what we thought about Ninoy. We said he should be the next president of the Philippines. Erapt said he was impressed with our view because he thought so too.

Ninoy was then LP secretary general. Gerry Roxas, Mar’s erpat, was party president.

How providential that Noynoy and Mar would find themselves together as a presidential team.

We believe Divine Providence will bless the tandem. The surveys are saying so. Let us not block the logic of history.

Both Noynoy and Mar are the most credible foes of corruption. And corruption is the root and base of our national malaise.

Parehong di korap, at parehong marangal at magagaling na lider ang mga magulang.

Mabuhay kayo, Noynoy at Mar! Mabuhay ang Piipinas!

What, Orly, we are GMA loyalist?

Let’s put this in perspective.

The Duques, just like the Balingits, are closes allies of the Macapagals. When Gloria became president, we’ve stood by her through thick and thin.

But the Gloria presidency will soon be over. And the country is now preparing for the next leader. We are now in that momentous point of our time.

We need to move on. In our view, under a post Gloria era, we will have a new leader. That leader, in our simple faith and careful analysis is none other than Noynoy Aquino.

We said here, and we say it again. Nothing can stop Gloria from finishing her term.

We wrote about two years ago that based on the reading of a friend seer Dr. Jimmy Tan, Gloria will hurdle all the jinxes thrown her way.

We were right.

Let’s be grateful that a peaceful transition is happening before our very eyes.

The Philippine Daily Star headlined last Thursday that Noynoy and Mar enjoy the highest trust ratings among their rivals.

The Readers’ Digest in its March issue said the same thing, when it rated 80 Pinoy leaders’ trust ratings.

So what else are we debating about?  Let’s go Noynoy, Mar for a great Philippines.
