Pan-Ams impressed by Pangasinan improvements

By Jun Velasco

IT’S becoming crystal clear that the May elections will be a reality, whatever the doomsayers say.

The killjoys will have to wait for another elections to see their game played.

But judging from the depth, intensity and character of the campaign, it will be a rough sailing. The Comelec will have to face up to the challenge.

Indeeds, nobody wants to play the Comelec’s role this time.

Let’s hope for the best. More than seeing our favorite candidates win, we have a big stake in the success of the elections. It will define how the future will take shape for our children.

Two Tarlacquenos are in the political headlines everyday because of Noynoy Aquino and Gibo Teodoro.

How about us, Pangasinenses? Well, we are in the sub-headlines because we have four senatorial bets — Joey de Venecia, Raul Lambino, Monching Guico and Vic Millora.

Joey is in the magic l2 of the SWS, Pulse Asia and Stratpol.

It’s not true that Joey’s climb to the top is due to his being in the opposition. Vic Millora, chairman of Marcos’ KBL, is even at the rungs below Lambino and Guico.

What we do not know about Joey is that he has taken after his erpat, former Speaker Joe de Venecia and lolo, then late former Speaker Eniong Perez in political savvy. If finally given campaign funds by erpat, we predict his entry into the first 5 senate slots.

Watch for developments.

A group of Pan-Ams (Pangasinan Americans) in the US came home from the Big Apple to see for themselves the good things they have been hearing from those who had been here before.

Ernie Aquino, a native of Calasiao, says they came with donations for Typhoon Pepeng’s victims and other gifts for kabaleyans.

Jess Sabolboro, younger brod of the late Mitz Sabolboro, formerly of radyo “d c dabalyo n,” as usually pronounced by the late Max Tartariwa of DZWN, puts the human element on top of the many impressive infras they have seen which they attribute to Gov. Spines.

True, we felt the years gallop back when we exchanged pleasantries with Mert Manela and wife, the former Melanie Oviedo. The sisters Nellie and Pacita, daughters of the late Cip Fermill, legendary school principal in the 50’s and 60’s, couldn’t help being nostalgic. Give Mar Panoringan, college classmate of Guv’nor Spines, five for the clockwork reception activities around the province.

Although they were full of ohs and ahs about what they saw, they couldn’t hide their dismay, Apring Dawana says, at sight of the mushrooming fish pens in the Dagupan rivers.
