Politics of vindictiveness

By Gonzalo Duque

WE were — or possibly, we still are — for Noynoy Aquino being the son of principled parents, Ninoy and Cory.

But at the rate he is sounding like an unforgiving if not vindictive leader of the land, we tend to agree with the pollsters that his declining popularity could be blamed partly on this.

It’s not really the case that he has no solid platform, because he has. Graft and corruption being a major issue in our country, his battlecry of “we won’t steal” is a solid indictment of the biggest issue that has hampered the growth of the country.

We already have good and brilliant laws, good and sound government policies and programs. What certainly juts out, as a stumbling block to our development is the penchant of our government officials to pilfer public funds.

We just over heard over the air from a Manila broadcast station a government report that was comparing the country’s economic growth to that of India.

Susmaria naman!

Singa ti labat la kolangot no ikumpara. Agay met la ray chuchuwawa no maminsan. We are definitely not anti-Gloria, but underlings like that factotum   make the employing government mediocres.

We have a brilliant President that much is true. But some of her subalterns are incompetent.

Allow us to felicitate brod Pingkoy whose appointment as chairman of the Civil Service Commission was confirmed by the Commission on Appointments like a breeze.

His term at the Department of Health could be said as a golden era of the department. And in PhilHealth, too. Several millions of poor Filipinos are now insured by the PhilHealth, thanks to dear brother. We are grateful to the Filipino people who have consistently given him the highest acceptability ratings. Above all, we thank God for His blessings.

In Pangasinan, we also congratulate Gov. Spines for successfully registering the Pangasinense masa in the PhilHealth program. Talagang health conscious itong gobernador natin e. Just look at our spic ‘n span hospitals, fully equipped with modern facilities. Malinis pa mandin.

Mabuhay kayo!

Brod Pingkoy related to us a good proposal made by Solicitor General Carl Miranda when the latter, accompanied by Judge Grace de Vera, paid him a courtesy call.

It’s like this, that government workers who died with their boots on or in line of duty should be accorded state honors when they die and, if possible, buried in a hallowed place like the Libingan ng Mga Bayani.

Sustained!

Back to the uncalled-for vindictiveness of people in power.

We recall how in India this monstrous quality of mind knocked down that great country due to some of its vindictive leaders.

There was a time when former Prime Minister Moarji Desai ordered the imprisonment of his predecessor, Indira Gandi, on corruption issues. After a short while, Indira was able to wormed her way back to power and ousted her tormentor mercilessly.

So be careful with this satanic frame of mind. Why are some presidentiables asking for the head of GMA even in the campaign trail? It’s dismal and nauseating. Husgahan na lang ang pangulo after her term. We are a government of laws, and not of men.

Please remember that.
