Young Roots
A new and improved Sual
By Melody M. De Guzman
OVER the last few years, the town of Sual has seen many concrete signs of improvements.
There’s the new town plaza, the Rizal Park, and a Civic Center and Sports Complex where people can indulge is different sports like table tennis and badminton for free.
This year saw the completion of a new fire station, a police station, and a sports complex each for two barangays.
Several schools have also seen the rise of a new gymnasium for the students, particularly those schools destroyed by Typhoons Cosme last year and Emong this year.
The municipality of Sual also started to employ street sweepers not just to maintain the cleanliness of the town but also to help provide employment opportunities.
Commercial establishments are also mushrooming, notably lumber shops, pharmacies, and grocery stores. With these in place, Sual residents no longer have to travel to other towns and cities to buy their needs.
The local government has been spearheading the town’s development and Team Energy, the company that operates the Sual Power Plant, has been contributing through employment and public service projects under their corporate responsibility program.
In 2010, the people of Sual are looking forward to the start of the construction of the planned international fish port. Once this pushes through, it will mean increased job opportunities for residents.
Sual, which has moved up from a third to a first class municipality, is indeed a new and improved town, and its future continues to hold many good promises.
