A grand salute to Mother Goose Special Science High for its ‘unusual’ record

THIS special science high school that came out of the “womb” of a super nursery school — Mother Goose Playskool – has made a name for itself as the producer of great minds.

We’re not making this “wild” claim just because Dr. Macky Samson, president of the only autonomous university in Region 1, has told us so over a cup of brewed coffee at Pedritos, along with Mayor Al Fernandez, Boy Balingit and Asterio Duque.

The eldest and most amiable son of the late University of Luzon founder Luis Samson whose namesake son, Councilor Chito, is our beerkada, called our attention to what his beloved wife, the former Gertrudes Cuison, was making of the Mother Goose Special High School  — MGSSHS – as the great and mighty and, in fact, the best high school we have so far in Al Fernandez’s modernizing city.

Having been trained to cast doubtful eyes on fantastic claims, we earlier gave Macky’s report as self-serving. But our thoughts raced back to the past when his sisters — New York University-trained educators Gloria, directress of the playschool, and University of Luzon senior vice president Aurora – started a Piaget-Montessori school known as Mother Goose Playskool, precursor of this high school.

And then Macky waved at our aide, Jun Pantal, to get a copy of the high school’s 3-page record, and reading it gave us a pleasant shock, having run smack into a learning hub that literally creates wonderful kids. Here’s the abbreviated list that Dr. Macky was boasting, which made us think, were they using scientific or creative method to unlock the young minds’ hidden geniuses.

The record, says Macky, speaks for itself. Look at this: A summa cum laude in a US college, five magna cum laudes, and 25 cum laudes in prestigious colleges and universities in nationwide. This in 17 years.

Alumna, Joy B. Rojas who graduated valedictorian in 2002 finished at the top of her class in Biological Sciences (pre-med) in Bakersfield, California, USA summa cum laude.

Sorry if our column looks like an MGSSHS advertising kit, but who can bet this newsy record?
