Think about it
Maybelyn Fernandez for councilor in 2010

GOOD news to Punch readers who keep asking about the whereabouts of consultant Gerry Garcia, dear uncle of publisher Ermin Jr., who has been “missing” in this page for some time now.
We saw a couple of days back the younger brod of this paper’s founder-first publisher Ermin Sr. at the idyllic Basista home of his vivacious wife, the former Muriel “Boots” de Guzman, enjoying himself in the company of Mozart. Schubert, Beethoven at a breeze-bathed room amidst a foliage of trees across a public high school that swarms with leggy students doing calisthenics every morning.
Gerry, now 84, relishes wonderful memories of four decades as editor and columnist of this paper, undoubtedly a leader in community journalism which is now in the able hands of nephew, Ermin junior, “a son every father should be proud of.”
What’s Gerry’s advice to Punch readers and young journalists? “Write the truth and be true always.”

Board Member Alfie Bince is proposing a course for political science enthusiasts in the” crafting effective legislation in provincial boards as support base for provincial governors.” Talagang tutok si Alfie ed si governor awa, Ferdie and Ranjit?
The classmate of former Chief Justice Hilario Davide laments “the dearth of intelligent debates in the provincial board which used to be a hallmark of the SP in Pangasinan” recalling how he loved every minute of debating with his former colleagues who are now in the Great Beyond like Gov. Aguedo F. Agbayani, Vice Gov. Porfirio V. Sison and Board Members Agerico Rosario and Arturo Padua.
Is Alfie that old? Why this legislation course advocacy in this late hour? Somebody opined Alfie might be referring to himself as the ideal support base for Govenor Espino in post 20l0. Smart move, eh, Vice Guv’nor bet Alfie?

Congratulate this group of other-centered souls who are on the frontline during disasters and calamities saving lives in rescue and relief work and “exacting” blood literally for the sick and suffering.
Pangasinan officers of the Philippine National Red Cross under Sen. Dick Gordon gave the public an inside track of what this national organization of 2 million founded by the late Henri Dunant does to beleaguered communities at the Engkwentro last Wednesday.led by Pangasinan Chapter Vice Chair Dr. Viven Villaflor, Ms. Maybelyn dela Cruz-Fernandez (beauteous wife of Councilor Michael Fernandez), Supt. Alma Ruby Torio, Councilor Marc Vidana, Rotary leader Ashok Vasandani, and PNRC rep Brian Villanueva. Rep.Victor Agbayani is PNRC provincial chairman.
A revelation was May Fernandez, the press’ favorite, for her gift of articulation and beauty who, the media thought, would easily top a city council race in 20l0. Michael even whispered to us that May, who comes from a big political family in Manila, is at home in public service anywhere. He is PNRC Pangasinan’s youth head.
Now that Michael couldn’t run for reelection in a Fernandez-crowded government, he will just be May’s driver and campaign manager.

The brouhaha over President Gloria’s Pl million dinner in a posh New York restaurant is an over-extended assault in the twilight of her term.
Neighbor Gonzalo squirms at the opposition’s lack of imagination, “wala na bang bagong tira ang mga yan?” Beware of the boomerang, he intimated.
Our buddy Min Gomez who just planed in from New York says “skyhigh naman talaga ang menu sa New York.” Another New York buddy, Alex de Leon, who just arrived, concurred but appealed to Ate Glow, “bawasan niyo na lang ang mga super alalay at sabit so in your foreign trips, if there are still any.”

NOTES: Mayor Teddy Cruz (former congressman) told us over the phone he wants Binmaley Mayor Sammy Rosario to try his luck in the congressional race in 20l0, citing his performance as mayor of his postcard town. Sammy simply smiled when we told him about it. “I won’t deny or confirm, anything is possible,” he said… A certain Arsy de Leon emailed us, “it is too premature for you to predict that Congresswoman Rachel Arenas may be unopposed in 20l0. There are looming challengers Gener Tulagan and Gallant Soriano.” We said “may be”….
The poor should thank PGMA and Sec. Pingkoy for the passage of the low priced medicines law. This should be a signal to Pingkoy’s running for the senate, but he is still elusive about it. It was tough work for Pingkoy who skippered the passage of the low cost of medicines law, but he did it. It’s now a great legacy to the country.
