Why Manny Villar clicks

By Gonzalo Duque

PRESIDENTIABLE Manny Villar’s star keeps rising.

Just as we thought so. Why? Like we too had said, because he doesn’t badmouth others on his way to the top… unlike most of them drooling to replace President Gloria.

The other two who just keep their cool as they go about their way en route to their political dream are Chairman Bayani Fernando and Defense Sec. Gilbert Teodoro Jr.

Ok rin sana si Vice President Noli de Castro, kaya lang maraming nagsasabi na hindi pam-presidente ang grey matter niya. But the way we size him up, ok naman. Okay lang, para wala munang salimoot, tama na muna yang vice president sa kanya, ha Jeremy?

But in the case of Senator Manny Villar, parang wala na tayong hahanapin pa. On his own he can finance a phenomenally expensive (billions) presidential campaign.

But Manny earned his billions through hard work. Karamihan diyan sa mga nagkakandidato, ang sinisilip, ang nililigawan ay ang millions of campaign funds from their benefactors, di, after the polls, they become slaves or beholden to their financiers. Would you like your president to be a prisoner of the financiers? He would be a stooge.

Look at Manny, by gum, this lucky guy does not even know that we are writing many good things about him. He was a former senate president and a former house speaker. Aren’t those already enough to show what he has between his ears?

Preparadong preparado na yan, mga igan.

We remember when then Vice President Diosdado Macapagal was not given any work to do by then President Garcia, he didn’t say anything. He was not a cry baby. What he did was used every opportunity to go around the country doing good and wooing votes. And so what happened? He vanquished re-electionist Carlos P Garcia easily.

Ano ka nyo? Tinalo siya ni Ferdinand Marcos the next time around? Well, if you go back to history, that election between Marcos and Macapagal was the most fraudulent in the history of elections in our country. And you know the fraud. The rest is history.

Our  committee on research formed by Governor Amado “Spines” Espino Jr. to ascertain and establish the actual date of charter of the province has requested the sister of former Gov. Tito Primicias — Ms. Perla P. Lahoz — who is based in Spain to assist us in our efforts. We are grateful to Ms. Bel Hamada – Arcinue for introducing Ms. Perla Primicias Lahoz to us.

Ms. Lahoz has advised the committee to observe certain requirements before we can make much progress in our efforts. She says there’s the need to ask the government of Spain for the progression of our work. It’s that sensitive pala. So let’s wait a little. Already, many media colleagues are making a big splash about this “first” that the Espino government is undertaking. A new paper, The Gulf Star, has bannered our effort with a festive headline, “Pangasinan’s 400th year — mother of fiestas eyed.”

Masakbay ni. But that’s exactly what we meant earlier. We can’t embark on a provincewide Pangasinan Day if we don’t have the records to show the province’s exact foundation date. And so if the committee’s efforts will come up with the “gold mine” soon, we expect a lot of things to come for Pangasinan.

Congratulate our Governor for doing the right on this account.
