GMA’s foreign trips

WE were saddened by the passing of our friend, Games and Amusement Board Commissioner Ricardo Villamil at the age of 67. Ito, a former councilor of Dagupan City, was charter president of the Rotary Club of Dagupan East, which just held its induction of officers yesterday.

He was a no nonsense guy, serious civic leader but very witty. His younger brother, Atty. Raffy, is like a brother and so, we feel devastated too by his passing.

Rest in peace, Kuya Ito.

The old confusion regarding the chartering of the province of Pangasinan will soon be a thing of the past.

We congratulate Gov. Amado “Spines” Espino for taking the first, real action in establishing officially the chartering or official founding of our province.

We are excited by the event not because the governor has named as chairman of the executive committee — although we are grateful for the governor’s confidence —; we are happy because soon the province will be able to celebrate its foundation anniversary in an authentic manner.

The traditional Pangasinan Day that we observe on Nov. 14 should be properly acknowledged as former Eugenio Perez birthday anniversary.

We have nothing against speaker Perez, but he can be appropriately honored on a date that is more appropriate. He was one time the early most powerful Pagasinan statesman. He almost became President of the Philippines. He was the marital ninong of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos and the father-in-law of former speaker Joe de Venecia Jr., but other bigger leaders from Pagasinan came after him like former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos and incumbent Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

With the founding of thePangasinan officially established it is hoped that Pangasinenses will be able to carve their destiny and make Pangasinan a greater province.

Those who are badmouthing the President because of her foreign trips are indulging in cheap talk. They don’t realize that the President has brought home multi billion dollars in investment packages because of her foreign trips. Those who are criticizing her have no idea of global economics and are better advised to shut up so as not to look ridiculous in the eyes of the public. “Magpakita naman kayo ng kaunting respeto sa inyong pag iisip.”

By the way, President Arroyo has succeeded in projecting her image as a champion leader of Asia. We believe no one among those who are belittling her can match her international leadership stature.

Because of PGMA, our country has carved a niche that was never before done in the past. In spite of that, she continues to be attacked.

But Jesus Christ and Jose Rizal were similarly dealt with in their time.
