JdV vs. Spines in 2010 polls

 By Gonzalo Duque

AFTER the much talked about US presidential elections, which was won dramatically by Sen. Barrack Obama, our attention – at least in Pangasinan – is now riveted on our own forthcoming Philippine elections in 2010.

Or, if there would be any elections at all.

Don’t frown, because many observers and political analysts say that administration moves aborting the elections are gaining ground. Well, we may not be for their cancellation, but, you know how it is in Philippine democracy. In our city of Dagupan, talks are rife that Mayor Al Fernandez doesn’t want to run for any elective position except for the post he still has.  It seems to portend that he would rather run unopposed, if former Mayor Benjie Lim and son Brian would allow it.

Good copy these days is the rumor that the son of Congressman Joey de Venecia III will run for congress, that is, if Manay Gina will not run as a possible replacement of her hubby.

So if Gina runs, is not Benjie angling to take another shot at it? Don’t look now, but former PNP Chief Arturo Lomibao, now National Anti Terrorism Action Group chief, seems bent on running, too, yup, for JdV’s post.

We heard Art is Guv’nor Spines’ bet for congress in the fourth. Well, how about Spines? Is Cong. Victor eyeing back his former Capitol post? And what’s the truth to the rumor perambulating in many coffee shops that it’s Manong Joe de V who is after Spines’ post?  We have this hearsay checked, and we are glad to report that it’s gaining currency, which, if it happens, will surely change the color and configuration of politics in the province.

Sino naman kaya ang mananalo  sa kanila kung nagkataon?

Formidable setto, don’t you think? For while it’s true that JdV is a veteran in the game, Spines had already vanquished an Agbayani, which means, he is not a pushover against the former speaker in a gubernatorial contention.

Magandang laban ito, mga igan.

We shall give you a more detailed analysis on this next week.

Are you familiar with the famous seer, Jojo Acuin?

He recently predicted that big changes will happen in 2009, some angering many. He says the presidential term of PGMA might be extended.  He adds that Cha cha would be held and People’s Power would be back in fashion.

Political stars are Chiz Escudero, Pia Cayetano, Loren Legarda and even Antonio Trillanes despite his being in prison.  Chiz could become president especially if teamed with Vilma Santos or with Noli.

Rumor has it though that “may isang taga-administrasyon ang hahadlang para hindi siya makaupo.”

All this talk about the dismemberment of Mindanao will not happen.

He also predicts that fraudulent elections will be here to stay, so that those desired by the powers-that-be to win in elections have the edge over their counterparts. “Kung sino ang gustong papanalunin ng nasa itaas, mananalo,” Acuin said.

And yes, ano ba naman ito? According to the seer, wala raw pagasa sina Jun Lozada at Joey de Venecia sa larangan ng pulitika.

We don’t know why Acuin zeroed in on these two young guys who are being bruited about as sure bets in the senate slate in 2010.

Let is clarify that it’s not us who is saying that but Jojo Acuin.
