The wannabes will block the impeachment complaint
By Gonzalo Duque
THE crispiest conversation topic in Pangasinan — especially in the fourth district — these days is the soured relationship between the Perez-De Venecia camp on the one hand, and the Macapagal-Arroyos on the other.
You know that an impeachment complaint was filed by Joey de Venecia III and which lately was endorsed by his father, former Speaker Joe de V, against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Don’t forget that Kuya Joe and Ate Glow were the closest of allies and friends, and the families’ friendship dates back to the days of their parents Cong Dadong and Speaker Eugenio Perez, father in lawof then upstart politician Joe.
What about the impeachment complaint? Will it prosper?
Medyo matindi ito, mga igan. Tayo’y mistulang mga Confucious, confused, we mean.
But, offhand, we consider the filing of the case against PGMA not only out of line but out of time, very late in the game. Election year 20l0 is just around the corner, you know.
The more curious thing about this is that the presidential wannabes led by Noli de Castro, Manny Villar, Mar Roxas, Loren Legarda, Dick Gordon, Ping Lacson and Bayani Fernando will not like De Castro to succeed Gloria and be a sitting president— or else, he would have the resources that would make him president. Get it?
Ayaw nila yan. Over their dead bodies! So, papaano yan? Wala na, dead in the water ang impeachment circus. That’s it, circus. Talaga naman e.
Back to the De Venecia-Macapagal hate-love affair. Para silang spurn lovers, ano? If you look hard and review their past, the Macapagal-De Venecia thing looks like a reincarnation of sorts.
Kasi after JdV and GMA, there are the children who could continue the uneasy affair — Joey de III, Mikey and Lulli. Better make the sign of the cross, matindi ya. arawi kayo pian agkayo natalapos na perper.
Incidentally, someone opined rather not seriously that the names De Venecia and Perez have their roots in Spanish. Foreign pala but the Macapagal naman is a royal descendant of Lakandula. Very native. Bahala na kayong mag isip kung sino ang mas ok.

Although they have not fully organized, the putting up of the draft or interim association of fishpond owners of Dagupan City is the most correct and logical step to stop the rampant violation of the fishing ordinance in the city.
It won’t be long when the group will become an institution and a force to reckon with. We congratulate Fred Caguioa and Apring Dawana for their initiative.
At the same time, we congratulate Mayor Al Fernandez for showing his sensitivity to the public pulse when he ordered the demolition of the fishpens. There is no doubt that eventually wherever there are fishpens, fish and marine lives will die.
We also commend Mayors Sammy Rosario and Nestor Pulido of Binmaley and Anda respectively for dismantling the fishpens in their respective towns.
We hope Mayor Al will do the same, too, because there are no ifs no buts here. Where there are fishpens, fishkill will not be far behind.

Thank you, Nestor Pulido, for inviting this makter ya lingkor to join your talk show over station DWPR every Monday.

At presstime, we received from our e-mail a letter from Jose Ceralde who wrote about the US political system. Let’s see how we can make use of his comments, but by the time we’d use them, tapos na yong US presidential elections of which he made his incisive commentary. Thank you for your reaction.
