Super shoes from Las Vegas

By Gonzalo Duque

SAN FRANCISCO, California —In case you take your shoes that are not super-fit, be warned.

They could cause body and mental ailments.

We wish to hug the doctor who has advised us to change our old pair of shoes when we often complained of certain lousy feeling we were prematurely blaming on other things.

Thanks to Raffy Villamil and his beloved wifey for taking us to Las Vegas where we bought a new pair of shoes — and look what heavenly feeling they gave us, and instantaneously vanished all our bodily and other discomfort.

The shoes’ brand is “Crocs” as in crocodile. Where before we could only walk a few meters and felt tired, this time, we could do a mile without panting. We hate doing advertising but Crocs is superb.

Manny Baby, if you have contacts with that company, you can collect the ad proceeds for this endorsement.

We had a grand time — a much needed respite from our daily grind in the Philippines. We are so pampered by Dagupenos here the likes of Mita and Sammy Macaraeg, Cris and Herminia Meneses. The latter donated some precious dollars for the Mary Help of Christian Academy for the scholarship of would-be priests.

We also felicitate Diosdado and Arlene Macaraeg who donated two scholarshops for two at our LNU. Salamat, salamat.

If you ask us, these are the good examples of Dagupenos who don’t hesitate to give liberally to others.

Unlike some of our countrymen who have not stopped badmouthing other people. Ay naku, ganyan ata ang buhay ano?

We read somewhere a House bill filed by Congressman Antonio Diaz of Zambales that puts a cap on fiesta expenditures by towns and other LGUs.

The bill seeks to discourage LGU officials from overspending during fiestas at the expense of the economy.

We remember our propensity in Dagupan to “over celebrate” our fiestas. Who would forget that incident when a certain fiesta exec committee (hermano mayor) had to invent tall tales and apologies for not being able to remit to the city his fiesta fund collections he solicited from US based Dagupenos. Know why? Because he lost kuno some P3 million fiesta proceeds in a Dagupan-bound bus when he was already back in the Philippines.

We overheard another tale that another hermano mayor could not liquidate fiestas funds simply because he just couldn’t liquidate, period.

Pwede ba yan, mga igan? Those are public funds!.

Well, our city government has been over lenient on these things, that’s why we lose our credibility as officials for our city kasi masyado tayon balasubas.

Maybe we should ask Bishop Oscar Cruz to rally our people against extravagant fiestas. Dapat, monsignor, hindi lang jueteng ang kampanya ninyo; pati na rin sa extravagant fiestas, illegal drugs and over-charging priests.

We know a lot of people who would spend their last P2,000 for merry making and then are penniless the next day.

Sigue, elek kayo, pero tua ya, awa Boy Rayos?

Even while we are in the US, we continue to monitor local news. We are excited about our basketball intramurals in the city.

And also, our people at LNU told us that our comment on the disappearing bangus in our rivers has been received warmly by our fishermen.

Dapat ayosen tayo tay pangaalaan tayoy pambilay tayo, atay bangus, naging sikat tayo ed intiron mundo, tapos pupulyanan yo met la kuno ya ompatey iray sira dahil sa massive fishkill. Antotan kimet?
