McCain upstages Obama with his beautiful vice

By Gonzalo Duque

IF it were not for our columnists Al Mendoza and Jess Garcia, we would have junked our interest in local sports news.

But Al is coming out with a book on Muhammad Ali, and so we couldn’t say goodbye to the stuff.

Main reason our apetite for sports is waning is, well just watch the PBA, buhat ng mawala na ang mga Jaworsoki and the like, what we choose to watch now are the NBA because of the things they bring to the game.

It’s similar in politics, we are losing interest in local politics. We are more attracted to the twist and turns in US politics, the McCain-Obama fight, now climaxed by the vice presidential show, with McCain’s lovely, congenial and charismatic vice presidential bet Palin, though only 46, but the main event in the McCain’s latest public show.

Obama, as most of you know, is leading McCain by only 3 points in the surveys, and so with the entry of Palin, the balance has begun to tilt.

U might think US politics is high brow. You can say that again. But did you know that our sister based in the US is a die hard Republican, but she soon changed her attitude when Bill Clinton was the candidate for president.

When we asked her why she chose Clinton, all she could say was that “pogi kasi e, and that’s about what’s it all about. Don’t be surprised if McCain’s popularity would zoom because of his best choice for vice president.

This columnist too got carried away by her powerful presence in the Republic convention at Minnesota. Baka mananalo si McCain dahil sa isang babong.

Don’t get us wrong. The American voters will vote on issues. The US, you know, is under recession. Many business establishments are getting foreclosed left and right.

Many Fil-Ams we know are already complaining of the hard life in America. Many can no longer continue amortizing their housing loans. They are praying for the coming of the economic messiah. Is it Barrack or Joe McCain who can fill that role?

We, Pinoys, should have interest in the US economy because our loved ones couldn’t send anything anymore because they are affected by the recession.

In the home front, we are delighted to report that in their last clash, our LNU basketeers beat UL’s players. We heard, although we have yet to confirm, Chito Samson bet on our players, kaya nanalo.

Painom kad Atanor sirin, Chito.

Hep, baka magalit ang mga UL players, biro lang yan.

As we go to press, someone texted us to say that while Obama is a powerful speaker, McCain has solid experience in the art of governance. If you, dear readers were to choose, whom would you pick? Yong m-bomba o yong magbibigay ng makain?
