‘Cycles’

By Gonzalo Duque

THE cheaper medicines law is now in hands of Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Meaning, it’s now a law, and brod Pingkoy is now being watched to implement the new law. It is a major, innovative and sort of revolutionary law because it addresses the millions of people’s needs.

When it was tossed to him, brod Pingkoy, by law, is given 120 days to work things out to implement it. We are happy to know that as per our conversation, Secretary Pingkoy who, modesty aside, is the most popular Cabinet man of the administration, has drawn up the implementation plan to ensure its successful   implementation.

It may be self-serving for us to say here, but knowing his work ethic, which has been praised by the Senate and several organizations here and abroad, this younger Duque is up to par when it comes to seeing his programs off the ground and implemented

We could already imagine our Papang smiling on account of this.

Keep it up, man, there are many more and probably tougher challenges that are awaiting you, brod. But we are proud of you.

City Administrator Alvin Fernandez is donning a new persona. That is, we are impressed with his fast growth in political savvy and leadership style.

There were times in the past that we were critical of him. But they were all for his own good. And the city’s interest most of all.

Lately, the future mayor of the city was elected chairman of the Lyceum Northwestern U alumni grand homecoming in December. The guy has graciously  accepted  the assignment. Which means Alvin never took our comments on him in bad light. We take this to mean the young man has matured much. He took up masters in administration in LNU.

Congrats, Alvin.

We bumped into Atty. Zeny Muerong recently, was it at Pedrito’s?

Zeny being, an avid fan of Congressman Victor Agbayani, expressed elation for our glowing column article about Victor.  Was Zeny surprised? Well, we intimated to her   that all the things we wrote here are views in furtherance of the public interest. Walang personalan, ika nga.

And we told her that we saw and heard Victor during the Congress hearing arguing for private education in the country. And he was good.

Someone who looks like Butch Velasco might be worrying over our nice words for Agbayani. Isang isyu lang naman yan e.  What’s important is for Governor Amado “Spines” Espino to sustain his good programs for the province.  Whatever happened to his promise to fix the founding date of the province?

Mukhang wala pa. E, kung iimplement na niya, ilalagay ko rin siya sa pedestal ng mga magagaling at mapagkakatiwalaan.

Correct, Butch?

A lot of this column’s readers asked us about the lyrics of Frank Sinatra’s song titled “Cycles,” which we mentioned here last week.

Sorry, we were not able to give them last week due to space limitation, and besides, without a video oke, we could not recall them accurately. Cycles is also Jun Velasco’s favorite song, which we dedicated to Speaker Joe de Venecia last week.

Here’s the song. We can recall every word of it.

When I’m down, and so I’m  out/ But so are  many others,/ So I feel like trying to hide/ like my head neath these covers/ Life  is like the seasons/ After winter comes the spring/ So I’ll keep this smile awhile and  see if some dreams come true.

I’ve been told, and I believe/ that life is meant for living/ And even when my chips are low,/ there’s still some left for giving/ I’ve   been  many places, maybe not as far as you/ So  I  think I’ll stay a while/ and see if some dreams come true. / There isn’t much that I have learned through all my foolish years/ Except that life keeps running in cycles/ first  there’s laughter, then  those tears/ But I’ll keep my head up high/ although I’m kind of tired/ my gal just up and left last week/ Friday I got fired. You know it’s  almost funny/ But things can’t  get worse than now/ So I’ll keep on trying to sing,  but please just don’t  ask  me now.
