Gina de V vs. Celia Lim in 2010

By Gonzalo Duque

MANY kabaleyans are wondering if Congressman Joe de Venecia will really testify in the Senate on the controversial NBN-ZTE deal, as he has been issuing statements in the papers to that effect.

If so, we should not be surprised. His junior son, Joey, had gone ahead, and so it is now   anti-climactic that the father, who was ousted as speaker by his partymates in Lakas and Kampi and other less known parties, would do the same.

We have a small point to make. As a friend and admirer (hindi pa naman tayo nag-iiba ng ugali, ewan ko lang sa kanila), our unsolicited advice is “huag na lang po, manong Joe.”

Not that we are an avid supporter of PGMA, because we too are supporters to the hilt of our former speaker when he ran for congress and the speakership. We are consistent in our stand. We supported him rather painfully against Benjie Lim, a personal friend, because we believed he would make a good congressman and speaker.

When he lost the speakership, we felt sad, very sad. But when he made a complete about-face in political advocacy behaving like anoppositionist simply because he was ousted, medyo lumabo ang sitwasyon.  We are not against him as a person but his political color.

Wala pa namang napro-proved as NBN ZTE case e. Panay hearsay. Until such time that there is proof of guilt beyond reasonable doubt, we remain very supportive of our President. Now that Kuya Joe is anti Gloria, as no less than he, his wife, Gina, and junior son Joey are also anti GMA, then magkaiba na kami ng landas. Ganun lang  yan e, di ba?

We are impressed with his many speaking engagements abroad. That activity brought him to Russia when Super Typhoon Cosme struck the province and made us all mournful at parang abalangan na bilyones. Baleg, dakdakkel so aperdi.

We wish Manong Joe were with us and saw the great damage the typhoon brought us.  Well, he came home and distributed   relief a week after his son Joey made his rounds, too many days after the super typhoon. Thank you. But the Speaker should have done more, much. Much more, in the same way he had done before during calamities, earthquakes, storms, etcetera. This time, parang  apasootan  lambengat, kasi he has found a new preoccupation, fighting Gloria.

Kuya Joe, agyo met seguro na blamed si Ate Glo, ta sicayo, si anak yo so immuna. Binira to ed Senado. Insan timmumbok si Ate Gina. Kaskasyan met lay  Ate Glo.

As a friend, yes, manong, you still are our friend, even if you had blamed us, the Duques and the Balingits for pulling down the streamers of Jun Lozada when he came to Dagupan. (We had absolutely nothing to do with it.)

It would do you better if you won’t testify anymore. Believe us, we still care for   you, we don’t   want  so many  people attacking you because  that would be the natural consequence of  your testifying in the senate, just in case. Gloria can easily take care of herself. If you’d allow us, we’d suggest you get back to your proverbial workaholic nature and continue shaping the destiny of this nation even if you are no longer speaker, because you are brilliant, and the nation needs your talents and skills still.

Good luck, God Bless and more power to you and Ate Gina!

Congrats to Ms. Razzle Coquia who was recently elected president of the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan, the club that we founded. She is taking over a workaholic, Dr. Lucy Honrado, predecessor who had a very fruitful term.

By the way, our friend and beerkada, Boy Rayos will also assume the presidency of the Rotary Club of Dagupan East next month.

For your info, itong si pare Boy, past president na ito e, bakit kaya bumabalik?

Pare Boy, may pamahiin dyan, baka di mo alam. Man kuros di bukot ka ni pare, para ag ka napatapba.

To you, both, good luck and more power!

Morer and more are speculating about the congressional position after 20l0. Since Kuya Joe can’t run anymore, there are talks that he will field his wife Gina to be his successor. Will Benjie Lim run again against a De Venecia once more?  Well, he beat Tessie before. But Kuya Joe beat him.  But can he beat Gina?

Our adviser Quintin Ciriaco suggested it might be best that instead of Benjie, it would be Celia Lim who will run. Celia, as you know, was Benjie’s open secret weapon, a very good campaigner, saksakan ng bait, marunong kumanta and superb dancer and very good in management and accounting. Well, most of you know super Gina, she is also a very effective campaigner. Matinding laban yan kung nagkataon. So it will be Celia versus Gina. A great match, di ba?  It’s like the movie, “Battle of the  Bulge.” Yahoo!
