Mareret

By Gonzalo Duque

VICE Gov. Marlyn Primicias Agabas is proving to be “game.”

She is not only a bright lawyer and an excellent leader, which makes us think she is a good successor of Gov. Amado Espino alyas Spines if the need arises.

Petite, charming and oozing with charm, our successor (we were vice governor once, remember?) was easily the star at the opening of the PRISAA games in San Carlos last week.

When it was our turn to speak, we described her as “maganet, mareret and magata.” The San Carlos folk who knew what those native words meant were salivating. Well, we were impressed with the lady vice governor – Primicias ata yan!

You know in years past, the familiar names in Pangasinan politics included Primicias, Duque, Estrella, Maramba , well,  Agbayani came  later.  That is why when we had the occasion to be with Vice Gov. Marlene, memories of the past came galloping back. We were still in short pants when Papang was governor and remembered vividly when Manong Tito Primicias was governor and our friend Engr. Dick Primicias provincial engineer.

We’re sure, Marlyn, when she becomes governor – with the permissions of Spines and probably come-backing Victor Agbayani — the province will become more beautiful, tourism-bound and cosmopolitan.

Go for it, Marlyn, but medyo carinyohin mo rin si Spines who is always gracious.

Congratulations to another Marlene – Spines’ cousin, the former Marlene Espino, who is now Marlene Ocampo – for opening her must-see and must-experience Diner Bistro, now Dagupan’s oldie and delicious steaks center in Dagupan.

It is a place not to miss when you are in Dagupan. Aside from the delicious food, Diner’s offers the best music concerts in a huge screen.  Councilor Chito, don’t miss the fun at Diner Bistro with its ice-cold beer and exotic cool ambience.

The Trillanes fiasco should not be difficult to understand.

Fiasco because the ambitious senator has a penchant for putting the law into his hands.  Without  establishing a solid and fool-proof premise, he,  together with renegade General Danilo Limand their misguided cohorts , attacked Manila Peninsula  and shouted  at PGMA  “alis diyan!”

Ano bang klaseng senador yan? May gatas pa sa nguso at nag-aalsa na parang   pangulo!

This government has been over hospitable to renegades, rebels, crackpots, what else?  For once, let’s separate the good from the ugly and move the country forward.

Trillanes? Tila-panis!

A most sensible idea propounded by political observers is the replacement of our multi party system by the old 2-party system with a third force.

You will recall that in the past, political butterflies were viewed with suspicion because the 2-party system was principle-based. The emergence of Senators Manny Villar, NP president, and Mar Roxas, LP president, has re-kindled hopes of the revival of the old set-up.  Will this mean that Noli de Castro, if he is fielded, becomes the third force? Puede ano?

We submit that this political development will redound to our much prayed-for political reforms. Let’s support it.
