THINK ABOUT IT
Local cop making things happen

YOU might be tickled by this text message sent by Pangasinan Napolcom chief Benigno Dizon: “Holdaper: walang ingay, akin na pera mo!”
Biktima: “Hindi mo ba alam na congressman ako?”
Holdaper: “Kung ganon, akin na pera ko!”
Har har!

It took us some time to see through the need of reactivating the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club simply because it couldn’t be avoided.
The province is such a Peyton Place there’s no way we’d not cross everyone else’s way. With Christmas around the bend, we wish our brothers in the two major media groups here — PATRIMA, which stands for Pangasinan Media Tri-media Association and the PPRC — break bread together under one roof again.
In point of fact, members of the two associations have co-existed happily with one another. It may help to remind us that the two clubs’ membership structures are not the same. The PPRC is individual, while PATRIMA is sectoral.
We thought it isn’t ideal to isolate a few “erring” members. We probably need only to “discipline’ or educate the few “Talibans” in our ranks. The public’s respect for our profession is at stake, and the pillars of the local media can’t bury their heads in the sand amidst a few’s wayward ways.
We ask the leaders of the two clubs as they go about their elections of officers this week to give the idea a serious thought, and, possibly action.

We deplore most strongly the shooting of a colleague, Allan Sison, last week. He was chatting with a lady acquaintance when shot thrice, and thank God, attending physicians said he was out of danger.
“Matibay si Dr. Heart,” snapped a colleague. We know Allan is all heart, that’s why. Allan, in Pangasinan, by the way means giant, a colossal person.
Right after the incident, Police Regional Director Pol Bataoil assured us of the police’s zealous effort to investigate the shooting. He has directed Pangasinan Director Isagani Nerez and Dagupan chief Dionicio Borromeo to come up with dramatic result soonest.
The last time we saw Allan was at Colonel Nerez office where we helped initiate his reconciliation with another hot shot colleague, Jaime Aquino, who has since become his friend again.
Get well soon, Dr. Heart. You still have a lot unfinished business to dispose of.

At the residence of cumpadre Orly Navarro, Dagupan Police Chief Dionicio Borromeo regaled us with what he has been doing to make sure that the city of Mayor Al Fernandez is kept safe from lawless elements.
The recent barangay elections, he said, has coughed up a clustering system with well trained tanods to fight crime. The city’s largest barangay, Bonuan Gueset, gets priority attention with its sub-station renovated in spanking showcase of police effectiveness.
Borro’s action must have factored in Bonuan’s illegal drug’s notoriety now “successfully cleansed” with the help of the Muslim community and the leadership of newly elected barangay captain Angel Gumarang.
A good mixer who has easily won public approbation, Borro interacts with all publics like it were his second nature. No wonder, Rotarians, bankers, Kiwanians, Lions and the academe are eager to help him succeed. His lean and mean l35-man force is also deep in tree planting under the baton of newshen Liway Manantan’s Kiwanis club.
“If they have a green army, we have a green police,” Borro said.
“We require every police member to plant one tree a month,” he said, as their contribution to “kalikasan.”
Of much interest is a favorite subject of fellow East Rotarian Boy Rayos and new Barangay Pantal Kapitana Lilia Yazar to convert — with Speaker Joe’s and Mayor Al’s full support — the whole length of Pantal’s roadline into a local French Rivera or Roxas Boulevard or promenaders’ park to boost local tourism — dream come true, but realizable and perfectly timed with breathtaking alternate highway which is opening early next year.
You see, with restored peace and order, a community can embark on greater things.
