Congrats, Madam Auring!

By Gonzalo Duque

CONGRATULATIONS! We felicitate the Dagupan City Schools Division headed by Supt.  Dr. Aurora Domingo for placing First among the 13 school divisions in the recent National Career Assessment Test (NCAT) in the whole Ilocos Region.

I used to annoy them for not scoring well enough in some regional evaluations. But I did so because I was concerned in the city’s performance in this field.

DEP-ED Regional Director Soledad Ligaya Miguel had earlier sent her congratulations to the city thru City Administrator Alvin Fernandez.

We always doff our hat to the good performers – and slam those who fare badly. Ok lang, diba?  That’s our duty in the Fourth Estate. Sabi ng iba dyan, yang si Pareng  Gonz maatake. Sabi ko, di naman, mahilig lang tayong mag mungkahi ng iniisip nating tama at dapat lang, di po ba?

We remember tuloy ang yumaong friend natin, the former RTC Judge Gary Uson. He told us once “Gonzalo, para kang speck of sand sa loob ng shell ng talaba (oyster). You constantly rub off the oyster till you produce a pearl.”

Ganda ano?

We hope we did contribute a little to the city schools divisions by my annoyance in the past. Congrats again, Manang Auring!

Governor Spines, we heard from the grapevine, is acting on our suggestion that he initiate a research on the founding or history of our province. Ging Cardinoza told us Spines was willing to send a team to Spain to do research work on this.

Bravo!

But you need not do that, Guv’nor Spines, just get in touch with the Spanish Embassy. They might even pick up the idea to sponsor a trip to Spain.

We’re interested on the exact year the province was founded, susunod na yung exact day.

In that case, we would know if we could have a yearly bonus, di po ba maganda yan?

We have hinted to BM Deo Espino to file a resolution calling for the proposed research on the province’s history.

Good luck!

The PRISAA games for high schools will open on August 22 at Peoples’ Astrodome. The games will follow the national games in Zamboanga City in the year 2009.

Better to prepare early — so we go for the golds.

We are pleased to know that many if not most of those who shared our dismay over the practice of basketball “imports” took our side.

Our observer said “ok lang na mabigyan ng scholarship ang taga-rito, hindi yong dayuhan.”

See, Macky, that’s what I mean. Let’s propagate our own.

Let me stress that there really is no rule on the practice – but there is a moral issue to it, if you only reflect a little on it.

Sa aking palagay, it’s about time we showed these Manilans our best stuff. Pangasinenses are better off at times. Look, we have produced two presidents, two Speakers, two National Artists – need we say more?

Hope Chito will throw out a round of light beer at Atanor on this.
