Pangasinan beaches, pre-election ‘hot spots’ on May 1
By Gerry Garcia
ROADS leading to Pangasinan’s coastal cities and towns will most probably be bursting at the seams on Tuesday, May 1 which, besides being national Labor Day, is also the start of the province’s Pista’y Dayat (sea festival)… meaning, the beaches will be drawing massive crowds of celebrators not only from Pangasinan, but also from adjacent neighbors, like L.U., Tarlac, even Pampanga. Especially its summer-time coming in the midst of unprecedented global warming.
May 1 is also in a sense Pichay’s day as it will be a classic Tour of Pangasinan bike-fest featuring some of the nation’s cycling greats sponsored by senatorial candidate Prospero Pichay of Cotabato Sur.
The marathon bike race is part of Pichay’s pitch for Pangasinan tourism being made jointly with his national tourism program which he vows to help realize when he becomes a senator after May 14.

Vehicular traffic on the road leading to Tondaligan Park in Bonuan barangay of this coastal city on Tuesday will be a challenge to the city’s vaunted POSO force, especially with the expected merging of hundreds of motorbikes from out-of-town with traffic in the city.
The volume of visitors in the city car-riding or otherwise, is sufficient cause for citing unsaintly acts, like theft or sudden snatching … and motor bikes often serve as fast and very convenient get-away cars.

These pre-election days are rife with threats of death and mayhem especially to those on the campaign trail about to end. So there’s cause to be wary of strangers riding tandem in motorized two wheelers.
The pre-election gun ban still stands and the POSO and other allied law-enforcers are expected to stand by their commitment to preserve peace, order and safety.
