JdV starts West Central school modernization

By Gonzalo Duque

LAST Sunday, I had a satisfying lunch at the People’s Cake house beside the old Polyclinic Hospital.

I was with old friends, fellow columnist Jun Velasco, noted artist Jun Fiertes, who was recently featured in the select magazine “Literatti” (Jun is recently known as the discoverer of the males’ potency), the ageless Gerry Garcia and the late Lory Guadiz’s man Friday George Ragutana.

It was in this humble corner when Jun and I met in the late 50’s, united by our bike driving mania on the city plaza,  later to meet again in the late 60’s when we took part in the youth movement that eventually toppled President Marcos from power.

After lunch, on my way home, a billboard caught my attention, about an announcement of Speaker Joe de Venecia’s donation of some new ten rooms for the Dagupan City West Central Elementary School.

Punch readers know very well that I have been fighting for the schools’ modernization, and so with the Dagupan City National High School.

As soon as I saw the billboard, I called up JdV’s staffman Nelson Sotto, who confirmed it. He even added that my column helped in reminding JdV to implement it.

Bilib tayo diyan kay JdV. Aksyon agad. Saludo ak, sir, ed sicayo, may your tribe increase!

You know, Manong Joe is the type of leader whose mind often outraces his ability to implement projects. That’s why he is sometimes mistaken as promising Joe or Joe de bola, but in fairness to the truth, he means to do everything that he says he will do.

I hope the city high side will also see reality soon. Medyo mahina ray alumni ya mangipaalagey na building da, and so I have sounded out JdV to appropriate from his CDF some funds to modernize the DCNHS.

By the way, what’s the principal, Mrs. Teodora Nabor, doing? Sleeping on the job? Kato manayan agto kayo totondaan nen amigok ya Councilor Jojo Guadiz, because of your penchant to temporize on pressing matters.

Kayo lang, I have started the fireworks, and you would rather do other, less important things. Sayang.

Maybe, in Kuya Joe’s sweet time, especially in light of his brother Oscar’s advocacy of a modern city high being an alumnus, together with their sisters Carmen and Rory, all city high alumnae, the modernization of DCNHS will soon be realized. Pisalamatan tayo sirin si Kuya Joe ta gawaen tom la.

Thank you in advance, Kuya Joe. Sana ag daka la lalabanan di Benjie Lim tan si Art Lomibao.

Good luck to you, three. May you all succeed in your endeavors!

Art Lomibao’s entry in the 4th district congressional derby, according to Mangaldan folk, will decrease Joe de V’s votes.

I thought Art was merely running to run away later, but he has been holding meetings left and right in every town in the district.

I was able to talk to him, and he confirmed that he is serious in the game.

Panon to ya, agaguik ira? Kuanco no, si Benjie labat so problema? Lasi layan bilay, antalosable!

But if I were you, apigeren kom lay amay sarasarag kon gawaen. Ata panagpanday na ley, ay, katawan, awey, mairap itan. Kung sabagay may mga staff na gagawa, but iba yong congressman mismo so manggaway bill or ley for the good of the country.

But as Art said, we are in a democracy. Everyone has the right to run for public office.

The pre-election surveys, I tell you, will backfire. I already wrote about it here last week. It’s nothing but big business. Whoever can pay gets the ratings. Panay sorbetes met!

Watch the next poll, the administration bets will dominate the top rungs. But it’s the local government units that will push them upwards.  Watch for the less colorful like Zubiri and Butch “itanim sa senado” Pichay and our favorite actor Cesar Montano to spring up in the winning column.

By the way, I read a national news item saying that Butch Pichay has roots in the Ilocos. And Zubiri’s jingle is nice, tuned to “boom tarat tarat, zubiri, zubiri.” Nice one, ha?

Problem   here is that because the opposition was ahead in getting   all the ratings, the later ones will be tagged as “cheated.” That’s the opposition kind of game. Mababaw.
