Think about it
“Mga Dakilang Lakan”
By Jun Velasco
THE Rotary Club of Metro Cubao had a great time last Wednesday viewing a documentary of all the Philippine presidents beginning with General Emilio Aguinaldo.
Produced by our friend, lawyer Ramon Dino, who works with the Millora Law Office, the docu film titled, “Mga Dakilang Lakan,” should be a must-see for the general public especially the young.
While viewing the l and a half hours film, we were struck by the political rhetoric during the country’s young years. There was no mention whatsoever about the issue of graft and corruption in electoral campaigns. Most issues were peace and order, winning Philippine independence, repatriation, health and love of country (that overused shibboleth!)
Which must show, we thought, the direct connection between economic progress and graft and corruption. For as all of us know, the Philippines was second only to Japan in economic progress during those years. Where are we now?

We asked Attorney Dino if he could lend the tape for public viewing by youth organizations, schools, and even our political leaders to give them an idea about the leadership traits of our former presidents.
The guy, who has Vic Millora’s wit and humor, said yes and even wondered how he could make money out of his labor of love which he painstakingly collated and filmed in various parts of the country and principally the United States.
In the middle of the show, we sidled up to him and said, “parang American sponsored, pare ah,” He smiled. But he made the peks man sign to say he spent P5 million just to produce but did not make money from it.

Mon and the Millora Law Office are on the warpath to bring to the bar of justice these smart Alecks who have fleeced our unwary countrymen of about P5 billion by way of the so-called “double your money” caper very similar to the pyramid schemes. People really never learn huh?
When one of the victims. a Muslim woman, who was fleeced with P500,000, came out in the open to denounce the scheme, three more or probably ten by now, instantly surfaced to join a collective complaint against the group.
We understand the big man at the helm is a close friend of Vice President Noli de Castro, and if charges will be pressed unrelentingly, the country’s Number Two Official will be forced to help shed light on the ugly scheme.
With lawyers Dino and Vic Millora on the ramparts, we are sure many heads will roll, and some names listed in the Smart Alecks Group are familiar in Pangasinan. Let’s watch and see.

We were a proud ninong to the wedding of Roger Ferrer and Cathy Manuel last Saturday.
We missed the church rites, but w e caught up with the reception at Voltaire Arzadon’s Dream Land Leisure Coast.
Sidebar of the wedding was our light talk with ninang Celia Lambino on the raw deal cumpadre Oscar was getting from his Lakas party mates. Talk about dirty politics.
Another side issue was The Punch’s relentless campaign for good governance, as we chatted with another ninong Jojo Guaidz and ninang Geraldine Baniqued, whose eyes were ogling at every word publisher Ermin wrote in his column.
What made our day was provincial veterinarian Dr. Ben Perez with whom we concurred that a “marriage can’t be spelled out because it is a very long sentence.”
We were preparing to unleash a few points after Geraldine spoke, but Cathy’s loving erpat Zarsi took the floor and made a beautiful, heart warming speech.
Weddings and marriages are actually the launching pad for a great adventure in the unknown future. Its sturdiness is always based on love, nothing more.
Love is why we marry, isn’t it? Most couples thought they were in love when they tied the knot – only to discover that they were not, and the marriage breaks down. Our advice: marriage should be worked out from day one to kingdom come till the end of time.
What’s nice is we saw in the Manuel-Ferrer couple in that radiant evening a masterstroke of love made in heaven. Best wishes!
