Here and There
Working for a common good
By Gerry Garcia
FINALLY after countless decades, this city’s long harassed pedestrians will be given the chance to cut through formidable traffic in the narrow streets of the city to the other side with nary a hassle. Dagupan’s superman in the House, Speaker JDV, has started the ball rolling towards construction of the first pedestrian overpass here by setting aside P3-M from his countryside development fund for the first phase – building a pedestrian overpass in the area dominated by two major universities including the Dagupan City National High School, Edna’s School and the Dominican School.
The first phase is the pre-construction stage where 2nd Highway District Engineer Rodolfo Dion’s office is coordinating the implementation of the project with the City Engineering Office which had submitted the original plans for DPWH’s review and modification.
JDV’s overpass project is complementary to, in fact a boost to an earlier move initiate by another de Venecia, Councilor Alex, who had cause the posting of warning signs for reckless motorists in all the city’s pedestrian lanes, to go easy because pedestrians are crossing.

City Mayor BSL, on the other hand, has reasons to go easier and be less offensive in his drive to build an image proportionate to his ambition to achieve more, not just for himself but for the city and the province.
The apparent split between him and JDV is no big deal and should not be also owed to stand between themselves and their attaining their respective success.
After all, both are working for a common good – that of their own city.
