A more confident Gloria

By Gonzalo Duque

WE all have seen her during her 6th State of the Nation Address.

She was at her best. Her SONA showed an ebullient Gloria, a more confident Gloria. She is “game.” Many were disarmed by her humor and wit.

Of course, the opposition will as usual downplay her triumphant hour, but the easy  majority of  Filipinos — and this could easily be gleaned from her aura and great speech —  believe that the President was very effective, inspiring and has brought the correct  message across the entire nation.

It’s very clear now — with all her detractors falling one by one, the latest being Michael Ray Aquino who admitted his guilt on espionage charges before US investigators  to bring down PGMA — that the dainty little president has towered ten feet taller, ever ready, fully recharged to administer the reins of  government.

Watch out for the narrow-minded partisans including a few highly politicized church leaders who will resort to extreme measures to make up for their lost cause.

But they will fail because the President is increasingly winning public support and unceasingly succeeding. Besides, the Filipino people could already see more clearly through the partisans’ self-serving, despotic and evil machinations.

It is ironic that some of her detractors are supposed to be championing spiritual causes. I feel that in God’s unfathomable wisdom where each of us will get his due and comeuppance will put everyone in his proper place.

Majority of our people only want a safe roof over their heads, a little enough food and sufficient clothing so that they can live comfortably and in peace.

You can see it in the diminishing number of people joining anti-GMA protest and rallies. Most  if not all of them, by the way, are paid by  GMA’s professional detractors.

The economy, according to experts, is slowly inching its way to rosy levels. I call upon everyone to support this forward movement

During GMA’s SONA a lot of people called or texted me because the President mentioned our school, the Lyceum Northwestern University, for pioneering in the ladderized education system.

In all modesty, that was the only Pangasinan item the president cited.  Probably she does not want to sound redundant because she is partly Pangasinense and a close ally of Speaker Jose de Venecia and former president Fidel V. Ramos.

Sus, I stand corrected. Ate Glo  pala cited the government’s all out support to the San Roque Dam hydro-power project,  which was started by   former President Ramos.

Thank you Madam President and thank you fellow Pangasinenses for supporting LNU.

By the way, the President’s citing Army Chief Jovito  Palparan, a controversial military officer, should highlight the fact that in the course of one’s performance of his job effectively, he is bound to step on others’ toes   and   hurt a few people. It’s part of the territory.

It is the nature of one’s job, in the same manner that Ping Lacson when he was chief of the Philippine National Police was also very controversial. He was even accused of masterminding the killing of publicist Bubby Dacer and his driver Corbito.

But Ping was able to bounce back and got elected senator. Gen. Palparan is a contrabida to a few but in the bigger picture, he has a key role to play to ensure peace in the country.

Aliwan palpalaran tan.

I am extending my sincerest felicitations to the Iglesia Ni Cristo on its 92nd founding anniversary.

An unassailable proof of leadership by the Manalo family, the INC has sustained a respectable niche in the nation’s life…  an inspiration of millions of people and a vital cog in uplifting the moral and spiritual lives.

The INC has also played a very vital role in stabilizing the government. Congratulations   and may your tribe increase!!
