Think about it
Counseling Raul Lambino on how to debate
By Jun Velasco
THE opposition might explode all the bombs on La Gloria’s face for all they care. But little one looks unscathed as most everyone has noticed lately, with green eyes to some, with amusement to the apolitical and naughty smiles to those who are peeved by the unimaginative opposition.
Very recently, she mesmerized the oil-rich sheiks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and successfully brought home more than l35 Filipino OCWs detained in some Saudi jails probably by the expedient of her wink or Mona Lisa smile.
With a political opposition mercilessly wracked by individual ambitions, Philippine politics has been transformed into a sheer power game where skill, talent, imagination and guts rule the roost, matira ang matibay. And La Presidenta, it seems, is enjoying every step of the way. Now, they are singing a new song, “From Saudi With Love.”

We think something deeper was achieved there, something significant that should lift the spirits of our motorists, the jeepney, tricycle and other vehicle operators and drivers and the common tao.. It must have something to do with the price of crude oil, which works like the plague if it goes up and God’s blessing if it goes down, and in most likelihood, what seems impossible may yet come to pass as the little girl displayed unusual power in diplomacy.
Eat your heart out, pare Rod, Ate Glue glows these days. And instead of whining, better send a text to Gons for a round of Light Beer at Celsa’s lounge at Vicar, yes, on a Friday night where, Chito says, the DCNHS combo plays, right Angelo?

The nursing schools of some 37 colleges and universities saved by Attorney non pareil Gonzalo Duque from the CHED’s demonic phase-out by the power of his booming voice (the judge slapped the Commission on Higher Education right on the face that showed some commissioners were sleeping on the job or dangling a settlement money) should waste no second to erect his statue or monument. He literally saved them.
Had it not been for Gons, the nursing schools should have been buried six feet below the ground, which would be a prelude to worse things to come.

Give it to Vice Governor Oscar Bengson-Lambino when it comes to playing a politician’s role with savvy and aplomb. He simply threw out a naughty smile when told that the gubernatorial road was too financially bumpy because he didn’t have the millions to fund a gubernatorial campaign.
The money inadequacy goes to show, he said, that he did not amass wealth when he was in the government service.
We told him though that his playing escort to the Arenas mother and daughter – Rosemarie Baby and Rachel Baby — is a political masterstroke because they have the wherewithal and, therefore, the charm or charisma for a winning province-wide campaign.
“They should not underestimate a tried and tested winner,” he said with a winning smile.
In Manila, Oca’s kin, the omnipresent Raul Lambino of Sigaw ng Bayan is frantically battling all comers on the proposition that the present constitution doesn’t work anymore, is the cause of our failure as a nation, and therefore should be changed if we are to survive.
Some colleagues of Raul are stunned by his energy and brilliance, but we cautioned him against knocking down his opponents, which, we hold, is not good strategy because this debate is not to be won by thrashing the foe to total defeat but by wining souls to the cause.
His last joust with prestigious Philippine Center of Journalism and the opposition could backfire. Better make them win the argument but caged in Raul’s home court.
