A farmer from Mabini was arrested after cutting down a tree without securing a permit.

Suspect Gregorio Barao, 32, farmer, is a resident of Barangay Villacorta in said town.

He was caught by authorities in the act of cutting down a mango tree using a chainsaw, but when approached and asked for a permit, Barao failed to provide one.

Barao was arrested and charged for violation of Republic Act 9175, otherwise known as the Chainsaw Act of the Philippines.

Authorities warn the public not to cut down trees without first securing a permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), as this is a criminal offense. (Ahikam Pasion)
