SOME 418 police personnel were organized to compose the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG)-Pangasinan as a pre-emptive measure to avert violent election-related incidents across the province for 32 days.

This was stressed by P/Brig. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque, police regional director, on April 7 during the activation of RSOTG-Pangasinan who he said will   only be deployed to help policemen on the ground.

Obinque said the deployment is a “proactive move” to ensure there are sufficient numbers of police officers in various local government units during the election period.

He added that after the elections, the 418 personnel deployed in different areas in Pangasinan will return to their respective units (Regional Public Safety Battalion, Provincial Mobile Force Company and Special Action Force).

“There’s only one thing the PNP is asking from you. Remain neutral, apolitical and non-partisan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Obinque said Pangasinan remains peaceful and the recent shooting incident in Malasiqui town that wounded Alexis Mamaril, a candidate for councilor, on April 3 still cannot be deemed election-related until fully validated.

Obinque also said that three towns in Pangasinan are under areas of concern, namely, Sual, Urbiztondo and Sto. Tomas. (Eva Visperas/Jerick Pasiliao)
