Shell gives scholarships jeepney drivers’ kids

At least 25 sons and daughters of jeepney drivers in Dagupan City took the scholarship examination given on June 5 in Dagupan City by Shell Foundation of the Philippines.

Benny Aquino, president of the Alliance of United Transport Organizations Provincewide (AUTOPRO), said those who will pass will receive a scholarship for a two-year Bookkeeping and Computer Programming course at STI Dagupan.

Officials of Shell came to Dagupan to administer the scholarship qualifying examination said after the scholars graduate, they can be employed by the foundation and its subsidiary companies.

Representatives of the foundation stressed the importance of graduates of bookkeeping and computer programming courses to companies.

Aquino said once the scholars finish the course and get employment, they will be able to give financial help to their parents who are jeepney drivers and operators.

In another development, Aquino said AUTOPRO intends to put up its own gasoline station at the present vehicle holding area on M.H. del Pilar Street where Bonuan-bound jeepneys may set up its terminals together with other public utility vehicles.—LM
