SOME 6,000 fans of popular singer Sarah Geronimo who will watch her “Next One” concert at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan on June 26 will go home with a scholarship for technical-vocational education.

Geronimo is the voice behind the latest TESDA jingle and is currently the agency’s main endorser.

Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Provincial Director Ponciano Catipon Jr. said the tech-voc scholarship under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship Program, is being implemented by the agency in cooperation with Viva Entertainment.

Catipon said tickets of concert patrons will be stamped as they enter and the tickets will be used to claim their scholarship vouchers.

Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez who owns CSI Stadia hailed TESDA’s program of distributing tech-voc scholarships to needy youth in the countryside.

The scholarship covers the tuition fee and training support for a tech-voc course in universities or colleges of their choice plus a P60 allowance per day.

He added that if the recipient does not want to avail of the scholarship, it can be endorsed to another.

The scholar must be a Filipino citizen, at least 15 years old with a high school diploma and physically fit to undergo training.

There are 139 tech-voc institutions in Pangasinan registered under TESDA.

“Next One” is Geronimo’s Philippine Tour 2009 in 10 cities, including Dagupan. Her special guests in all the performances are Billy Crawford and Mark Bautista with Simon Wood and Louie Ocampo as musical director.—LM
