LINGAYEN, Pangasinan–The province of Pangasinan is now number one tourist destination in Region 1 based on the survey conducted by the Department of Tourism.

The province posted a record 41.47% tourist arrivals as compared to Ilocos Norte, last year’s top grosser with 35.64%.

Two years ago, Pangasinan was ranked last among the four Ilocos provinces in tourist arrivals in the region.

The rating boosted the Espino administration’s vision to make tourism in the province a major component in the province’s development plan.

The transformation of the Capitol building into becoming the best Capitol in the entire country and development of the Capitol Plaza were cited as factors that drew visitors to the province.

Refurbishing were the Capitol building, the Kalantiao, Malong and Finance buildings, the Veterans Park and Lingayen beach front. Capitol Resort Hotel has been refurbished as well.

The presence of the six eco-tourism and employees’ shuttle buses and the Tour Assistance Program were cited as well.

Today, the province has 18 active tour guides.

The Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center has also become a popular venue for sports enthusiasts all over the country.

The province has some 300 hectares of foreshore land in the northwestern part of Lingayen set for conversion into a sprawling eco-tourist zone.
