Most celebrated event

By Gonzalo Duque

THE Bangus Festival in Dagupan City was touted as the most celebrated event hereabouts.

The entire region including the provinces in Central Luzon and visitors from Manila, not to mention foreign tourists, have come to this famous Bangus City.

In terms of mobilization by the executive committee headed by Eppie Rafanan, the performance was second to none.

Bravo and congratulations, Mayor Belen and staff!

But before you give vent to premature orgasm, we issue this timely word of caution.

Our rivers, some sections anyway, are not safe from dirt and bacteria due to irresponsible waste disposal. We know this because of our work in providing safe water to drink to Dagupeños.

We have been receiving reliable information that certain barangays near the river are reported to be contaminated by water- borne diseases.

We have called the attention of the Sangguniang Panlungsod to act by possibly passing an ordinance for a modern sewerage system befitting a modernizing city under a workaholic and internationally known Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Nothing has been done about this critical problem. It should be a “must” ordinance, if you ask us. Cleanliness is next to godliness; in case you have forgotten.

Councilor Netu Tamayo, you are known to be the chairman of Mayor Belen’s “bolong brigade” committee, you should have acted as the go-between the executive and legislative departments to initiate and realize this critical need.

Ang dami ninyong tarpaulins at epal to impress the public. Para kayong laging nangangampanya kahit malayo pa ang eleksyon. In point of fact, your overstaying posters with the words “salamat sa inyong pagmamalasakit.” (May problema ba sa botante?).

That’s very defensive advertising, ask the experts.

Let’s move on forward and upward, but please let’s do it properly.

The ASEAN ministers were having their meetings while we wrote this column.

There are international pressure groups such as Amnesty International, human rights groups and the Western press doing their works to highlight the extra judicial killings and other fault and sins of Pres. Duterte.

Fortunately, our brutally frank President remains very popular and well loved by the people, especially the poor, the masa because ngayon lang sila nakakita ng tunay na lider. Kung tutuusin ang naging sekreto ng popularidad at pagmamahal ng masa kay pangulo ay dahil siya ay totoong tao. Why do we say this? Yung iba po ba ay hindi totoo? You be the judge.

Parang may nakakita kay former Gov. Vic Millora sa Nepo nung isang araw, mayroon sigurong hearing sa Dagupan. Aside from being former gov and assemblyman, Kuya Vic plays an advisory role for Pres. Duterte. During his younger days as human rights lawyer, he was at one time a panelist of a public service radio program, ‘Stand up for your Rights,’ a project of the local IBP, Rotary Club, and the Sunday Punch. We have heard from Jun Velasco that Manong Vic Millora has become an evangelical person, promoting God’s word. AMEN.
