GALILA Mangan Tila! Let’s Eat Pork.”

The San Carlos City government issued an open invitation to its residents and visitors to its “all-you-can eat pork” in various dishes at the city’s sports complex on Monday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. to encourage them to eat pork.

Mayor Julier Resuello said the city is certified free from the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus so there’s no reason for them to abstain from pork.

He said the city has an existing total ban of pork and pork products from outside sources to ensure that hogs raised in the city are not infected by the virus and quarantine checkpoints in all boundaries to the city are manned 24/7.

He said as soon as the news that some areas in the country have been hit by ASF, the city government immediately established quarantine checkpoints to prevent entry of hogs from outside the city.

“It’s quite tedious but we are consistent because we want prevention,” he said.

He said the city’s total ban policy is being implemented jointly with its neighbor Basista  town whose mayor is his younger brother, JR Resuello.

He said hog industry in the city is big and the ASF scare has seriously affected them when city residents started to avoid eating pork.”

He added that hog traders said they have enough pork supply especially this Christmas.

The “Let’s Eat Pork” event is expected to allay people’s fears and residents’ consumption of pork sold by the local industry will return to normal level. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
