LINGAYEN—The number of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) cases in Pangasinan increased by 21 percent, with 884 patients afflicted with it and two death since January.

A report from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) as of February 4 said that last year, there were 731 AGE cases with nine deaths.

This year, the two fatalities due to AGE were from Mangaldan and Binalonan.

Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, provincial health officer, said affected age group is less than one year old to four years “so we’re checking on hygiene like the water for formula milk used by mothers for their babies that resulted in AGE”.

Unwashed hands can also be contributory, she added.

The following areas are placed under AGE watchlist by the PHO: Mangaldan (67 cases), Bayambang (58), Alaminos City and San Carlos City (51 each), Calasiao (46), Lingayen (42), Binmaley and Sta. Barbara (39 each), Malasiqui (38), Manaoag and San Fabian (28 each). (PhilStar Wire Service)
