THE eye center at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Arellano St., Dagupan City is set to open possibly in March.

Dr. Roland Joseph Mejia, R1MC director, said they will wait for the availability of President Rodrigo Duterte who will lead the inauguration.

“It will be the beginning of more new innovation in Region 1 Medical Center with the opening of that five-storey building,” Mejia said.

He added that R1MC’s out-patient department (OPD) will already be open from Monday to Sunday, an initiative to allow pay patients and employees to consult in a government hospital.

“We are expanding the services of Department of Health (DOH) medical centers nationwide,” Mejia said.

“So R1MC’S OPD will be Saturdays and Sundays, no longer just half-day only on Saturdays,” he added.

Mejia announced the opening of the cancer center located in Bonuan Binloc once the needed equipment arrives.

“What equipment they have in Manila, you can find those here at R1MC cancer center,” Mejia said. “If you have a cancer patient, you don’t have to queue for six months at the Philippine General Hospital or at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center,” he added

Mejia said the cancer center is equipped with dormitories because it will cater to patients in Northern Luzon for nominal fees.

In addition to the cancer center, Mejia said the construction of center for mental health or psychiatry center is ongoing in Bonuan Binloc. (Eva Visperas)
