Pangasinan now has 1.78-M voters

7,650 NEW VOTERS

THE resumption of voters’ registration being done by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices in 44 towns and four cities in Pangasinan since Nov. 6 has listed 7,650 new registrants.

The number of new registrants has further increased vote-rich Pangasinan’s total to 1,787,701 voters.

Eric Austria, election assistant at the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor in Dagupan City, said 2,732 registered as new voters from Nov. 6 to 11.

Dagupan City recorded highest number of new registrants with 197 followed by Alcala town with 180.

On the second week of implementation, 4,918 new voters were registered and this time, Mangatarem and Lingayen registered the highest.

Comelec offices are open from Monday to Saturday, including holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate new registrants.

The Comelec resumed the registration of voters following the postponement of the barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections from October 2017 to May 14, 2018.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10214 promulgated on Oct. 24, voters’ registration was set from Nov. 6 to 30, 2017.

Those who will be 15 years old by election day who will be considered members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan and regular voters can register for the May 14, 2018 synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabaatan elections.

Austria said there are no applications for transfer of voter records to be filed and processed during this period. (Eva Visperas)
