Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

By Gonzalo Duque

WE have every reason to celebrate lately, fellas!

In our case, we couldn’t get out of our enjoyable media night with Mayor Benjie Lim who was game, providing the musical entertainment with the bossing band.

That’s the man, even if from time to time he gets criticized here. ok pa rin.

The media night was well attended. It’s a good omen for things to come in the Pangasinan media.

Gumaganda ang unity and camaraderie. That, naman, is our objective di ba?

O yes, we didn’t give a speech anymore. That was the best part of the program. We didn’t deliver a speech.

At the presscon of Gov. Spines with his SP, there was a show of unity. Nice thing this Christmas.

Fact is Guv and Co did well during the year. Action packed. Daming nagawa! Mabuhay ka, Guvnor.

Now, we are ready for the Palaro next year. Don’t forget that we’re Number One in the region.

Some guys didn’t catch our message when we showed our t-shirt which bears the four monkeys’ “I see no evil, I hear no evil, I speak no evil and I have no fun.”

Bernie Erasquin butted in, “there should be a “d” on the “fun” so that it becomes “fund.” That brought the house down.

We feel the t-shirt would be a good club uniform. What do you think? Many are asking how to have one.

We advise you to get one during our next club activity, a sportsfest sometime in February or March in time for the palaro in April. OK?

O yes, congrats to the charter officers of the Pangasinan Junior Press Club headed by Eric Pasion of LNU.

We were supposed to administer their oath, but we saw Judge Yul Butuyan, and he graciously did the honors.

Thanks Yul. We’re particular with the young because soon they’ll take over.

The club will be holding a sports writing clinic later with Al Mendoza and Recah Trinidad as guests. Jun V and Jess G, please alert your beerkadas.

By the way, our club sent P50,000 for our colleagues who got hit by Typhoon Sendong.

We coursed the funds through the NUJP.

Or possibly thru the Philippine Tri Media Organization headed by our old pal Willie Espiritu as president.

We’re still lucky in these parts because we’ve been spared from the big flood that killed more than 1,000.

But our “alarmist” friend Jun V keeps reminding us about the Mayan prophecy and the “end times.”

He says we should be prepared always. Oo naman.

But don’t spoil the fun, pare.

In our book, God will bless those who have remained faithful to Him.

And so by way of sustaining that great and poignant Christmas story, let’s propagate love and humility at all times. Don’t forget that Jesus was born in a manger.

Let’s be humble and love everyone this Christmas and every day!
