Joey de Venecia to address IT Dagupan Congress February 26
By Jun Velasco
WE often encounter questions that we can’t answer with certainty.
Most of these have to do with President Arroyo’s staying in power at the Palace. Is she on the way out? Will the anti- GMA forces be able to muster 2 million warm bodies to force her out?
Others are also asking: will JdV be able to stage a comeback to the Speakership.
The air of uncertainty is very pronounced in Metro Manila, especially because mass actions against and in favor of the Arroyo government are increasing everyday.
The situation in the provinces is subdued although nothing is certain about their isolation in the long run.
The issues (alleged corruption and the attempt on the life of whistle-blower Jun Lozada) will continue to rage and hound everyone unless resolved in the courts or through other democratic means such as people power.
In our beleaguered nation, more and more people are losing faith in the rule of law because of what they see in the environment every day, non-observance.
This is disturbing and clearly dangerous, and we who believe in the power of the democratic ideal are worried about its irreversible collapse if the situation is not averted.
Pray that we would be able to ride the gathering darkness.

Due to unforeseen developments, broadband expert Joey de Venecia could not make it to the Regional ICT Congress on Tuesday, February 26.
But wait. He called up to say that he was “suddenly” scheduled to appear before a Senate hearing on that day.
Be that as it may, he assures the Congress participants that high tech information facility will enable him to “be there” just the same. The show must go on.
What’s he in broadband for anyway?
On the other hand, the Awards Night for Outstanding Personalities in Pangasinan slated on the same dayhas been reset to March 30, a Sunday, at the Star Plaza Hotel, according to Ruben Rivera, producer of Diwa, Salita at Gawa, which is directing the acti-vity.
See you.

Columnist Gonzalo T. Duque requested this corner to say that he was not able to write his column this week as he was packing up to leave for San Francisco, California, last Tuesday.
He promised though to resume his column next week after he gets over his “jet lag.”
He said he’d take a close look at the U.S. presidential elections, the neck-and-neck fight between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democratic Party’s nomination and Senator Mc Cain’s sure win in the Republican presidential quiz.
Keep in touch, Gonz.
