Belen, a 24/7 public servant

By Gonzalo Duque

THE Comelec as well as its deputized agencies have launched Operation Baklas as soon as the campaign period for local candidates has begun on March 29.

But not all of them were gone. We still see some oversized campaign materials along the highways, nailed or stapled on trees and on electric posts, and hanging on electric wires, all of which are prohibited.

When will all these eyesores be finally gone and confined in just one place—the designated poster areas — and according to their right sizes?

Lahat na yata ng issues na kayang ibato ng kalaban, ay naibato na kay Mayor Belen Fernandez. Pero, she remained unscathed, strong and composed.

Siya ay nananatiling isang matibay na bantayog na hindi kayang itumba kalian man.

This is because she is so loved by the people she served 24/7 so well.

I say this because I know Belen too well.

Remember, Belen did not leave her people even in their darkest hour during the floods caused by unprecedented monsoon rains.

My good friend, Veejay Vasandani impresses us no end by his successful staging of PBA games in Calasiao town.

We joined him, Ashok, Rocky, Mayor Belen, Guv Pogi, Mayor Bauzon and yes, former SAP and senatorial candidate Bong Go, last March 27 and you know, it was watched by legions of basketball fans in Pangasinan.

This is a testament to Veejay’s superb leadership skills which I believe he acquired while he was a student of Lyceum Northwestern University, where he served both as president of the LNU Student Council and LNU Law Student Council and other organizations in our institution.

We are proud of you, Veejay!

Congratulations also to Abraham Juan Resuello, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy of LNU, who was among the top 10 passers in the recent Pharmacy Licensure Examination with a rating of 91.10 percent.

The LNU administration, faculty as well as its students salute you!

Congratulations to Gov. Pogi Espino III for celebrating the 438th Pangasinan Day with much fanfare. If there is one monumental achievement of his father, former Governor Amado Espino Jr., it is the declaration of the day when Pangasinan was founded.

It was the former governor and now congressman of the fifth district, who created a commission that conducted a comprehensive research here and overseas to determine the date of Pangasinan’s founding.

He named me to head of that commission with members from the academe and various sectors of the society.

I was invited to join the celebration but I was not able to attend because of the pressure of work in my office. I want to be there next Pangasinan Day.
