Rule of law

By Gonzalo Duque

IT’S sad and alarming how the so-called democracy advocates would easily break into boisterous protesters when their wishes and advocacies are not won in a fair game!

We are referring to the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential race.  As all of us said, it was a fair and square encounter. Si Trump pa nga ang agrabyado e.  Lagi siyang binabatikos ng mga netizens, media, etc!

Kung sa media, panalo na si Hillary e. And oh, yes, in popular vote, panalo rin si Hillary by a slim edge.

But the rules are rules. Donald Trump won by a comfortable margin in the electoral college.  Sana, kasi ang Amerika is so-called model of democracy, rule of law and all that, they should hail the results of the elections.

Hindi ganun ang nangyari e. May mga halang ang kaluluwa talaga. If they don’t get what they want, they go into tantrums! (Not tan Trump ha?).

We expect the new US president and our President Digong to seal a new, ideal good US-Phl relations that’s based on mutual rights, trust and respect. Nagkaloko noon kasi unfair ang US treatment sa Phl e.  Noon, but now it will be correct. Our two presidents – Donald and Digong hate sugar-coated rhetoric. Both are tough talkers… but they mean business. Yan ang type natin!

In our own beleaguered, now re-blossoming land, the pathetic, loud-mouthed minority of protesters have not learned to stop their foul-mouthing former President Marcos.

Dictator? Ok, if that’s what they, and some of you, dear readers want.

We refer you back to the same spirit – rule of law, normalcy, prosperity, future, hope… and so on.

Nag-desisyon na ang Korte Suprema e, the highest democratic arbiter of conflicts. 9-5 ang desisyon. Are we insulting them? Or, do you, unrelenting whiners, masquerading as democracy and law defenders under the privilege of free speech, believe that you are better than the chief justices?

You see, before the Martial Law era, we too were a young man of dissent. Alam ito ni fellow activists Ging Cardinoza, Mike Morden, Nestor Pulido, Jun Velasco (the latter 3 being former political detainees). We, too, deplored the establishment of Ferdinand Marcos.

But Marcos died 27 years ago. It’s time to pick up the pieces, bind the wounds of political conflict, unite the nation and prosper. The burial issue was an election issue. The man who said he should be buried at the Libingan was elected with more than 16 million votes! Hindi ba katawa-tawa, nakaka-suka, tapos na ang boksing, nag-iingay pa?

What kind of logic is that?

Nung natalo si Pacquiao kay Mayweather, madami ang maingay na he was cheated!

Ano ba yan? Let’s learn to fight fair and square. Kung talo, be man enough to congratulate the winner. That’s the name of the game of life! Huag yong, talo na, maninira pa!

Let’s move on, ladies and gentlemen.

Lagi nating sinasabi, ang pikon, talo!

We are now seeing right before our very eyes the hypocrisy, pretentiousness and arrogance of those who claim sole right to what’s right in our country.  They have no humility. They forget that in this arena where an already dead Marcos belongs – which is only to God – they still want to slap, lash and drool over his name.

Nasa korte na ng Diyos ang isyung iyan, mga abay!

Let’s ask them: could you with a straight face and without batting an eyelash claim before God that you are more sinless than Marcos? We hark back to that encounter by Jesus with the self-righteous Pharisees who were about to stone a sinner (Mary Magdalene) when He said “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone!”

Relax lang kayo, mga abay. The one you are blasting might be your face.

Nakakalungkot ang nangyari sa Albuera, Leyte, where Mayor Rolando Espinosa was killed by 19 CIDG officers. The mayor had executed an affidavit implicating Sen. Leila De Lima and 225 government officials, military, police and judicial personnel in the widespread illegal drug trade operated by his son Kerwin, No. 1 drug lord in Eastern Visayas.

We won’t join the outrage anymore lest we’d only add a noisier sound.

What we want done is for our provincial government officials led by Gov. Pogi Espino to take over where we had left an unfinished drug rehab center in Burgos town when we were vice governor.

Our idea is a Youth Welfare Center, which will take youth offenders not only the violators of the anti illegal drugs law… but everything that’s hampering the full development of our young into future leaders.

How about that Guv’ Pogi? We are ready to give you complete details at your own sweet time. Our phone is 09189592009.
