Pista’y Dayat lamet!

I WAS drawn earlier to write about the overbearing presidential bets’ issues since my Facebook newsfeed has been filled with them. But then I remembered that I’ve told myself to wait for the last presidential debate to make up my mind about my views and decision on who to vote for, etc. Also, I realized that my beloved Pangasinan’s Pista’y Dayat has already kicked off! So while the election fever heats up, let’s not forget to enjoy the summer heat with the sea festivities. Indeed, Pista’y Dayat lamet (it’s sea festival again)!

My family belongs to those families who love going to the beach – to enjoy the sunrise or the sunset, to feel the waves, to breathe the fresh air, and to have picnics. Expectedly, summer for my family is not complete without having such moments at the Lingayen beach. We always find ourselves lucky to be residing in this capital town, mainly for the presence of the beach and the Capitol Compound. Last week, my family enjoyed a stroll at the baywalk while munching some street foods sold in the area. Nothing fancy but it’s always a good time, I must say.

Great thing the Pista’y Dayat celebration brings with it many, many events that families can add to their usual beach activities. The committee in-charge of the festivities made sure to offer recreations all ages they can make the most out of. There’s the art exhibit and workshop for the kids, the battle of the bands for the teens, the beach party and zumba for the whole family.

Furthermore, this year’s Pista’y Dayat marks different firsts: the First Skateboarding Competition, the First Pangasinan Pista’y Dayat Car and Motor Show, and the First Night Job Market. Signature and crowd favorite events as the Limgas na Pangasinan pageant, sand sculpting competition, and the Banca Parada are also set.

At this stage, I want to congratulate and express my family’s and other families’ gratitude to the provincial government and the partner-organizers and sponsors of the Pista’y Dayat 2016. Events as big as this are never easy to sort out, but I believe the overwhelming patronage of the locals and tourists every year is enough to encourage the organizers to organize it with new ideas.  I am personally a fan of festivals particularly the Pista’y Dayat, because just like the Lingayen beach and the baywalk itself, the festival welcomes everyone, every family, regardless of class or of religion or of race. In our present-day world where distinctions are widely felt, it is always great to note that there are still some equalizers.

Kudos to our sea bounty! Kudos to our beach! Kudos to our Pista’y Dayat!
