Singapore-based Pinoys rooting for Duterte

Gonz-Duque1

IN an overseas call, we learned that Senator Grace Poe took Pangasinan again by storm. Again!

We’re happy our Lyceum Northwestern University hosted her dialogue with our students.

Ok tayo dyan. As we said, the Lyceum Northwestern University is open to all points of view being committed to democratic principles. This was taught to us by erpat, the late Dr. Paco, who lived his political precepts. And it is our solid conviction that is right.

Thank you, Eva Visperas, for your story in the Philippine Star regarding our liberal stand on all views in the political prism.

For her and your information, we were probably one of the first activists in the pre-martial law era who risked life and limb to promote democracy.

One time, then Governor Paco caught then youngish newsman Jun Velasco and us doing a mimeographed manifesto for political causes at the back of the Polyclinic Hospital. Though an LP stalwart, erpat was anxious about our activism because we were then teenager. Mas matanda ng 5 years si Pareng Jun.

But that deep-seated political tradition of being with the masa and the Liberal Arts people has stayed with us till now.

During Martial Law, we were among those who marched on the street with the likes of Ging Cardinoza, and what an adventurous but sometimes risky experience.

We re-state our faith:

LNU stands for the free market of ideas. All the presidential candidates are welcome at LNU.

We want our students to dialogue with all wannabes…. To broaden their horizons…debate the issues leading to enlightened decisions.

We were in Singapore on August 26-27 to attend the Asean Drug Forum with Dangerous Drugs Board officials.

Thank you, Sec. Bebot Villar for this distinct privilege.

At the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and at the conference at Royal Park Hotel, we bumped into fellow Filipinos who regaled us with their views on Philippine politics.

Did you know that out of 10 we asked, five said they were in favor Davao Mayor Rody Duterte becoming our next president?  The four were either for Mar Roxas, Grace Poe and Bongbong Marcos, although the latter hasn’t declared or intimated his presidential plans.

Back to the Asean Drug Forum, we and DDB execs were impressed with the high tech the international anti narcotics groups are doing to keep our communities safe from the demonic tentacles of illicit drugs.

It wouldn’t be long when the merchants of the dreaded commodity would be apprehended.

In the province, those who tune in to our radio-TV program “Deretsahan” with Sec. Villar know that we are closely closing in on the drug lairs including some police who are masquerading as protectors of our houses but are in reality doing the reverse.

We have been tapping local officials to help, sponsoring educational lectures to rally the public to this noble hard-fought drive. But we know that deep in our hearts and minds, we shall win.

God won’t allow a noble program to fail, you and us know.

A lot of people are reporting very revealing things which may astound you, dear readers.

Let’s sustain our faith in what is good.

Thanks to all who are four square on this, with us, for all.

We have just produced a doctor in the family, Jovito Aguedo Lorenzo Duque alyas Jaloy, a graduate of La Salle College of Medicine, Dasmarinas, Cavite.

Hrrmmm…. he was adjudged as Mr. DoH, being, rumors say, the most handsome guy in the  DoH accredited hospitals.

He looks like Hayden Kho, many girls say.  Sana… naman, hindi siya makikita ni Vicky Belo. Pag nagkataon… paktay lo!

Seriously, we thank God for all the blessings.
