Re: Fisherfolk decry continuing pollution of city’s

Illegal fish pens? WOW! City Hall can’t blame the former mayor for this. Former Mayor Lim took a lot of heat when he demolished the fish pens that was ruining the river. These pens did not return until it was a shoe-in that Belen Fernandez was going to win the election. Since that time there has been illegal pens fouling the rivers. The removal of the illegal pen did not end a lot of this practice. The solution is to tear down the pens and heavily fine the owners. Also, it should mandatory that the owners of legal pens be educated on the eco-systems of the river to maintain a healthy crop of fish and protect the rivers.

Just the other day there was again a massive fish kill. The blame was the water temperature. Proper dredging of the river could help eliminate some of this problem. When Former Mayor Lim was in office there was a big ado about the dredger not working. Now there are two dredgers. One is a piece of junk the other, Junk Jr. I cannot understand how a city that relies on it’s waterways cannot get dredgers that work.

Until the illegal pens are removed and the river(s) properly maintained it’s a sure bet that bangus and other marine life will continue to die prematurely.
