Mark Cojuangco declares gubernatorial bid
By Gonzalo Duque
NOW that former Congressman Mark Cojuangco made public his decision, mark that, decision, not just plan ha, to run for governor, those planning to also aspire are now having second thoughts.
He made the announcement during the state of the province address of Governor Amado Espino last Monday.
Why are the other aspirants thinking twice?
Of course, we know the reason.
Mark is probably the most organized and logistically prepared in running a political machine.
Of course there are a lot of factors and imponderables in launching a successful campaign. But everybody knows who Mark Cojuangco is. He is the chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition in Pangasinan, the dominant political party of which no less than Governor Espino is a member.
What happens now to our friend Congressman Leopoldo Bataoil who according to earlier reports has been going around the province and making known his intention to run for governor?
He is by the way also a member of the NPC.
When Mark told the media of his plan, Governor Espino was reportedly not around. Some people are speculating if he agreed with the Cojuangco decision. We can only surmise that there was consultation because running for governor is not a joke. It is a very tough decision.
As of press time it seems that the road towards Mark Cojuangco becoming governor seems smooth and trouble – free. That is if there are no snags or rough sailing in the party.
But what about this?
We heard that our friend, socialite and charismatic Representative Rosemarie Baby Arenas is being mentioned in political circles as also eyeing the governorship.
This is interesting. There are two big political personalities who are expected to back arenas in case this is true — former President Fidel Ramos and former Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr.
And you know that women voters anywhere in the Philippines enjoy a commanding majority.
Pangasinan has four women representatives, Gina de Venecia of the fourth district, Marlyn Primicias Agabas of the sixth district, Kimi Cojuangco of the fifth district and Rosemarie Arenas of the third district.
Somebody observed the more the merrier.
Abangan ang susunod na kabanata.

As chairman of the bangus fest, Bangusine– Bangus International Cuisine showcase — slated on April 28, 2014, we have invited big institutions including restaurants, schools and other entities to join this exciting and much awaited activity.
No less than our indefatigable Mayor Belen Fernandez is inviting ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps from all parts of the world to participate in this activity that highlights our world famous Dagupan bangus. Venue of the activity is the world-class convention center, the Jimmy Fernandez Stadia.
There are titillating observations about the smell and the bony character (masabit) of our famous bangus.
This precisely is the challenge how to make the Bangus International Cuisine successful.
The participation of the diplomatic corps will surely introduce new ideas in the project.
We view this as also the signal for foreign students to enroll in our colleges and universities. Let us all work to ensure the success of this activity.

Vic Sison of Gloria Maris has intimated to this writer an interesting idea: the promotion of the bunong-braso through a sport called in Pangasinan “sanggol.”
Vic said he will try to tap Northern Cement to ensure the success of this activity.
We are sure that “ang maglalalaban dito ay yoong mga mangingisda na matitipuno ang katawan.”
Ayos ba?
