Irreparable damage
The following was told to me by a former employee of a college in Luzon during my last sojourn to the Dagupan City.
During the last elections one of the administrators at one of the Luzon collages decided to go into politics. She was going to run for a council seat in one of the municipalities near Dagupan City. As everyone knows going into politics takes money and since this college administrator was short of funds she decided on the use of “volunteers.” She gathered her staff and, the former employee alleged, gave them a choice: either donate to her campaign or “volunteer” their time to work getting her elected.
The former employee of this particular Luzon college explained she had no time to volunteer. She explained that she was a single mother and sole support of four children and therefore needed to be paid so that she could feed her children. The administrator’s reply was, “don’t expect to be rehired next semester!” The employee quit on the spot rather than let her children go hungry while being forced to work for an ambitious political wannabe.
Elections were held and the administrator of the Luzon college lost by a wide margin. This administrator of this Luzon college exemplifies the reason why it is important to know who you are voting for. Putting the X in the wrong place can do irreparable damage.
