Otek na asipet (Brain of a cockroach)
By Gonzalo Duque
KABALEYAN Channel had two interesting guests lately.
POSO Chief Robert Erfe Mejia, Schools Supt. Gloria Torres and City Agriculturist Emma Molina had timely messages for the Pangasinan, especially Dagupan public.
Durable friend Robert Erfe Mejia, a good “navigator,” proposed that his POSO be institutionalized and made a regular office with a budget so that it’s freed from whimsical interference from outsiders posing as insiders.
Let’s wait for Mayor-elect Belen’s comment on this.
Madam Gloria’s reminders to pupils and students to be prepared at all times under all kinds of weather are most appropriate. Just look at what devastations Davao City was going through lately.
Last Tuesday afternoon umulan ng yelo sa Mangatarem, Urbiztondo at Basista.
Anooo, nakakainggit?
Sana kung kaunti lang, but if the ice rain comes in torrents and continuously — and that’s a possibility in light of climate change, take cover na tayo.
In Madam Emma Molina’s case, Mayor-elect Belen made her stand clear as crystal which is — ban the fish pens. We wonder why outgoing mayor Benjie who won against Al Fernandez for championing an anti-fish pen campaign capitulated! Kitang kita ang ebidensiya, madaming fish kill as a result of the fish pen’s abuse of our rivers.
Let’s restore the integrity and clean-ness of our rivers.
Ibabando tayon bangus capital of the world, marami namang fish kill!
Thumbs up for Mayora’s drive to clean our river systems.

Before the elections, Mayor Lim was boasting to the world that the Dagupan River Cruise is Dagupan’s tourism feat.
Just the other day, nawalang parang bula ang mga cruise. Know where they were found? At the back of the mayor’s warehouse in Barangay Malued. When the workers were asked why the cruise boats were there, “pagmamay ari ng mga Lim po mga yan, hindi ng Dagupeno.”
Shocking. Wala na akong masabi. Speechless tayo sa matinding shock. Sabi ng driver natin, ganyan pala siya?
Wala na tayong sinabi.

You, dear readers, must have heard in your radio sets the most foul language used by two or so sore losers (in the local elections) against us.
It made our day, fellas. Agda tupakey kiew no ag mabunga, right, Manny Baby?
What amused us a lot was this Manila Standard column of a former National Press Club president Emil Jurado who promoted us to a business tycoon.
Mr. Jurado, brother of our friend Willie, was fed the wrong (or fabricated) information that we (yes, we, this your favorite columnist) was buying MCAdore to the tune of P70 million!
Manong Emil should have had the elementary courtesy of checking his facts first or played Sherlock Holmes to know that his informer fed him wrong information. Before the BIR would jump at us, we’d like to take exception to that fabrication.
His “informer” (we know who) concealed from Manong Emil the fact that there is a pending case against the MCAdore case at the RTC sala of Judge Mervin Jovito Samadan who the other week declared the authority given by the outgoing Sangguniang Panlungsod to Mayor Benjie Lim to sell MCAdore “null and void.”
Repeat, null and void!
Why? Because it was done in “indecent haste.”
We’d like to inform Mr. Jurado that no one in his right mind would want to be dragged into the MCAdore mess, now a lamentable property.
The latest word is that a case has been filed lately to annul completely the MCAdore sale.
And so, Manong Emil, may we respectfully say to you, that until the case (MCAdore) is resolved, no one is foolish to get his fingers tainted by it.
That unfortunate column item by Mr. Jurado implied a corruption motive on our part and the new Dagupan City officials. This we cannot let pass.
While we wrote this, we were waiting for our lawyer to prepare a libel suit against Mr. Jurado for allowing himself to be used by unscrupulous persons at the expense of unwary individuals.
Incidentally, the buying price of Mr. Tony Cabangon Chua for MCAdore was so low–P110 million! This figure was already protested by then Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez as too unreasonably low, claiming it should have been P250 to P300 million!
Otek na asipet so informer nen Manong Emil.
We shall attend to this later for his undue interest in Dagupan affairs.
