Re: NEXT DAGUPAN MAYOR

One day after the election of Her Highness Belen as the next mayor, the illegal fish ponds demolished by Mayor Lim are returning at a rapid pace. The dismantling of the fish pens by Mayor Lim has allowed high-value fish apart from the bangus to return, thrive and swim in the river’s depths.

Lapu-lapu, talakitok, Malaga and pompano now abound in the city’s rivers. Juicy crabs are being caught by small-scale fishing by local fishermen from their banca and are being offered for sale at reasonable prices without a middle man interceding.

The illegal rebuilding of the fish ponds are continuing at a rapid pace, yet Mayor-elect Fernandez remains silent and by her silence is abetting these illegal acts and should be impeached upon taking office.

The City of Dagupan is blessed with beautiful rivers. The free flow of these rivers are a necessity to the industry and ecology of the area, yet Belen Fernandez, like former Mayor Al Fernandez, by her silence has encouraged the proliferation of these illegal pens.

By her “I’m the boss now” arrogance she is destroying the hard work of Mayor Lim and millions of Dagupan pisos cleaning up the river that was nearly destroyed be the last Mayor Fernandez.

The devastating July 16, 1990 earthquake destroyed much of Dagupan City, I hope that that Mayor-elect Fernandez doesn’t finish the job that the earthquake failed to complete.

(Editor: I am afraid you have been grossly misinformed. Read our next week’s issue on the illegal fish pens).
