Protocol for presidential visits

MAY mga natuwa, may mga nainis sa last visit ni President Aquino sa Pangasinan last May 2.
In the first place, why was he here? Firstly, to inaugurate a 1.6 kilometer Lingayen-Binmaley bypass road sa Barangay Quibaol, Lingayen. Ayon sa Pangulo, symbol ito ng “walang maiiwan sa tuwid na daan!” He said “ang isang mas maganda at mas matibay na kalsada ang daan para sa mas mahusay na pag-asenso ng ekonomiya at mas magandang buhay para sa lahat.”
Itong bypass road na ito ay nagsisilbing alternate route for a faster travel ng mga commuters from eastern to western parts of Pangasinan and vice versa. Sa mga cargo trucks ng agricultural products, it means mas madaling i-byahe ang kanilang produkto.
Pagkatapos ay may dialogue with local leaders sa Lingayen 1 Central School kasama ang mga taga congressional districts 1, 2 and 4.

Iyon lang ang ipinunta ng Pangulo sa Pangasinan? Naturally, ang sagot ay HINDI.
Panahon ngayon ng pulitika and hindi lang ordinary political fight ang meron sa Pangasinan. We all know na determined na isulong ng Pangulo ang kanyang Team PNoy from senatorial to local positions. Hindi rin kaila sa lahat na maka-Nani at Art and their team si PNoy. He strongly and repeatedly endorsed the candidacy of Nani and Art.
We also understand and know na may operating procedures tuwing may presidential visit. In other words, may protocol na sinusunod. At ang Presidential Management Staff (PMS) ang nag-ko-coordinate at nagtatawag kung sino ang mga invited. And usually, three days or one week before the event ay firm na ang list of persons kung sino ang mga dapat sumalubong, makausap and how much time he should spend with whoever.
In that particular visit, as usual, may mga invited at may mga hindi at dapat alam na ng mga kapuwa ko officials yan. What I don’t understand is bakit kailangan pang gumawa ang ilan to test kung gaano katibay ang pagsunod sa pinaiiral na protocol sa presidential visit.
Kaya hindi dapat sisihin ang Pangulo if one is not included in the list of invitees. If not invited, ‘wag sasama ang loob because there is a protocol and it has to be followed. Ipakita naman natin na marunong tayong sumunod. Kung walang tawag para dumating sa isang occasion pumunta, don’t go.
Those who dare attend without invitation risk hurt emotions dahil nakakababa ng self-esteem ang mga nasaksihan ng ilan na eksena. Friends ko ang mga ito na sumubok. When I learned of their plan to appear without the invitation, a day before the visit and I sent word “Huwag nilang gagawin yun dahil baka mapahiya lang sila”. As expected, yun nga ang nangyari.
I feel pity for them. I pity them. But in this life, we just have to accept reality!

Sa Urdaneta City visited frequently by the President, nagpakitang gilas din ang mag-amang MECO Chairman Amadito Perez and Mayor Bobom Perez. Full house ang kanilang sports complex para sa speech ng Pangulo.
As a show of support sa request ng ating congresswoman na si Kimi Cojuangco, I directed a contingent mula sa Sto. Tomas to be there. We love and respect our congresswoman dahil hindi niya tayo pinababayaan sa tuwina na tayo ay may kailangan.
Ayon sa feedback na ipinarating sa akin, Cong. Kimi asked the contingent from each town in her district to stand up para ipagmalaki naman sa Pangulo na nandun sila at nakikiisa sa kanyang advocacy. Nang tawagin niya ang Bautista at Binalonan, kapansin-pansin ang katahimikan mula sa crowd at tila walang tumayo. Where were they?

At presstime, it’s 10 days more to go before the election, the judgment day para sa mga candidates.
Remember the phrase “weder-weder lang”? After May 13, whoever wins, respetuhin natin. Kung nagkataon pang malakas ang kanilang kapit sa taas, o di mabuti para mas maraming projects ang kanilang magawa. Set aside ang mga nasaktang damdamin.
After all, as we often hear, “There’s nothing permanent in this world except change!”
