A three-story building for elementary school children?
If the Department of Education has not given its imprimatur to transfer the 300 Guadiz Elementary School pupils to the newly constructed P24-million school building, there must be pending issues that were not addressed before the construction. Housing elementary school kids several feet above the ground? This is not a laughing matter.
Did the bright boys of city hall consult the DepEd before constructing the building? Are they aware that there is a height limit for elementary and high school buildings?
Elementary school buildings that house elementary pupils — primary is Grade I to IV while intermediate is V to VI — are supposed to be a one-story edifice. Even the Gabaldon buildings that were constructed during the American regime observed uniformity in height. The reason is obvious: safety of the child. In the case at bar, politics appears to be the overriding consideration.
The insistence of the city to construct the hospital in the GES compound is politically tainted. It threatens the school’s serene atmosphere. The city administration could not list it as one of its accomplishments because it was done at the expense of the school kids.
If the city has lots of “weapons of mass discussion” aimed at parrying criticisms, it won’t negate what the public perceives as another empty pakulo.
